View Full Version : Glass Lights Help
Yo! I am after some definitive advice on choice of glass headlights. They are for my 94 J-spec. All I want to do is replace the present ones with the most straightforward and easiest replacement, mainly for cosmetic reasons. Any (simple) advice would be greatly appreciated, inc. prices and suppliers if possible. Spending so much on my car its untrue!! :Pling:
Many thanks. ;)
Best to do a search, there's been a few group buys.
Why don't you just clean them with different grades of plastic polish, cheap to do with good results.
Aye, half read the group buys today but was in a rush. Have heard if you take the lense covers off they can be hard to reseal. Also am really fussy and like the 'clean' look from the glass lights. Will get off my butt and study the group forum properly. Cheers for the reply mate.

Hi I had the same doubts as you when it came to the lights, my mate and I took apart the lights within an hour, you just have to heat them up with a heat-gun to make the sealant runny, then scrape it out with a screwdriver - this is what takes the time!
Once apart the light comes apart very easily and the chrome light backing is independant, so can be sprayed or polished (only plastic), you can then attend to the inside of the lenses, with t-cut original, this worked a treat on many lights, such as mine, jim_supra, mad_matt, etc.
As to sealing it, just go to B&Q and get some clear window sealant, run a bead along the inside and reassemble the lights. Use the heat-gun again to heat up the plastic lip of the lights to bend back in shape.
I made a bit of an ass of mine, but you can not tell at all, even with the bonnet up.
Nice job for a hot, sunny, afternoon!
The glass ones really do add that little bit of extra something to the car...
I did both the cleaning of the plastic ones and painting them on the inside...
When I got a damn good deal on a set of glass ones I took them, and they just so finish the car off..
