Blown Exhaust Woes

Just when I thought my week couldn't get much worse being choked with the cold and having a ruptured lung......my car decided it wanted to sound like a WWII Tiger Tank! Now while a nice loud sounding exhaust gets me going on these machines, I don't like driving around listening to it constantly.

Having just left the hospital after an X-ray my exhaust decided to blow from somehwere in the middle.....queue panic and thoughts of expensive new pipes/cats/seals etc.

Toyota were booked solid so I took it up to my local Kwikfit in the hope that they would diagnose the broken parts and I could order replacements over the phone with my local Mr T.

As it turned out the 2nd cat (Yes I run a bog standard exhaust complete with both cats.....stop laughing) had coroded bolts on it which meant that the nuts holding the lambda sensor in place had sheared off and the lambda sensor was hanging out of it's allocated hole, thus releasing exhaust fumes and causing a rather loud rumbly noise.

The coroded bolts were re-threaded and 2 new nuts attached. 20 minutes later I had me car back in good health with no charge whatsoever. So a big thank you and recommendation for the guys at Kwikfit in Livingston.

My wallet can rest easy.......until I go to fill up the tank again at least. :p
