Hi Guys

I am having a bit of a heated discussion with the people who are supposed (that being the operative work) to be respraying my car. They reckon that the windows need to stay in as they are bonded and will break if they take them out!!!

So, why do you take the windows out? And how likely are they to break? How easy to replace?

Just want the information as back up to beat them up with.

Thanks

They are talking crap :swear:

The windscreen can be taken out without breaking it, by cutting through the seal, you will need to replace with new seals though. When this is done here the bodyshop will get in an expert windscreen installer to replace the screen.

Thats the way I am leaning at the moment. Can't do anything with at the moment. Its in the air with no back breaks they were completely shagged......... pads, calipers, discs the lot........ If I dont sort it out in the next day or so it will go somewhere else.

The car can be painted just fine without removing the front and rear screens. The rear side windows are bonded in and very difficult to remove without breaking them. Dude does them "at your own risk" - if they break you'll have to pay extra.

You really want as many things removed as possible (I'm sure you already know this!)

So it's a safer bet if it's dismantled by someone who's done it before on Supras, preferably lots of times --- that's why I suggested the Dude (just saw you're up in Birmingham, lol...)

I appreciate what you are saying.

I chose this garage cause they did a fantastic job respray and restoring my dad's 1961 consul classic and looking after another of his cars. It was such a lot of money to spend that I wanted someone I could trust to do the job.

But this just seems like it is all too much trouble for them..........

Who did your spray job Mr Bones?

Twas a local chap called Marty Wilson, been around since god was a lad. He actually did my very first ever respray back in 1979 ... Mk I Escort for £70 .... wouldnt do my Supra for that price though  I cant recommend this guy enough, the finish is incredible, even on the bits you cant see.

Thanks Rosie. That helps a lot. :thanks:

This garage thing is beginning to get very frustrating. I hate the girlie at the garage lets pat her on the head and do what we feel like thing!!!! :complain:

I have given them a call and jumped up and down, it would appear they are now going to take everything but the 1/4's out although they are getting a price on replacing them if they break. And I am going to check my insurance to see if I am covered for all glass replacement.... cause if I am they can whip all the glass out and if it breaks I will claim on the insurance. After that doesn't count as a claim does it.
