My mam’s Rav-4 has a problem. When you accelerate quite quickly it starts to stutter and the revs start to dip. After a couple of minutes the car is barely driveable and stutters no matter how you drive it. I changed the plugs which were changed at a service a couple of months ago and they seemed to have quite a bit of carbon on, however these made no difference. I think I also heard it backfiring when we were driving it today.
One Toyota garage thought it could be the ECU at a cost of £750, but would want £120 just to check if it is this or not.
The car is a standard 2.0 auto. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Is it likely to be the ECU?
