Hello All and Some Questions.

Hi

I've recently joined this forum and this weekend bought my second Supra. This time it's a silver GZTT Aero-top in completely stock condition with 7 years' history in the UK. My last one (3 years ago) was a SZ NA Aero-top.

I thought I'd introduce myself, say hello and mention a few points/ask a few questions.

I'm based in Nottingham and could do with some help in:-

1. choosing a reliable supplier of new wheels who can fit them locally.

2. a good make of tyres to go for for relatively safe driving in the wet (I currently have new AVON ZZ1s on which don't appear too helpful in the wet).

2. choosing a knowledgeable servicer locally.

3. locating a good paintwork repairer locally (there are some scratches and chips I'd like to rectify).

4. locating a specialist locally who will be able to make necessary alterations to correct the previous mistakes in the speedo conversion, leading to active spoiler deploying at 90MPH (I'm told :sly: ) and over-light power steering.

Sorry for asking all the questions at once but I thought another member based Nottingham way will be able to answer some or all in one go.

Also, and tempting hi-jacking, I have been reading the various posts about the recommended RON for J-Spec TTs. I have what appears to be an official Toyota Japanese/NZ manual which recommends 95RON or 91 as a minimum. This is the same as the UK manual which I also have. What seems strange is that I thought the NZ cars were similar (engine wise) to UK spec and not J-Spec.

Thanks

Nilpoints.

PS> I've already learnt a lot from this site so far. Thanks everyone.

Welcome

1. choosing a reliable supplier of new wheels who can fit them locally.

Contact Ibrar Jabbar SEE HERE member on here with wheel business that has good rep with many members.

2. a good make of tyres to go for for relatively safe driving in the wet (I currently have new AVON ZZ1s on which don't appear too helpful in the wet).

I have Michelin Pilot Sports which I am very impressed with in wet and dry (better than Pirrelli P-Zero and Bridgestone S-03 I had before.) The Dunlops are also highly rated, do a search and you'll find load of useful threads.

4. locating a specialist locally who will be able to make necessary alterations to correct the previous mistakes in the speedo conversion, leading to active spoiler deploying at 90MPH (I'm told :sly: ) and over-light power steering.

See Thor in Traders section not sure of their location but Pete can advise and supply parts you need.

Only use Optimax or similar/higher grade of fuel in the TT.

Have a read of the FAQ in Tech section, you'll learn alot. Also the SEARCH button is your friend

Having just paid £87.90 for an 'A' Service at Toyota (ok - I supplied the oil), I would tend to disagree with you.

read my thread in Supra chat.....they wanted to charge me £200 to change the plugs, 150 for a coolant change......nuff said

you may have a good dealer.....but in my experience Toyota are best AVOIDED

out of interest....where did you take it for a service.........which dealer :)

Hi Rob

I'm based in Chilwell but the Fiance is originally from Woodhouse so I'm in Mansfield fairly frequently.

I'm fairly good at basic servicing such as fluids, filters and pads but presume there are other more technical matters that should also be checked out. I think I'll drop the oil every 3K and get it serviced every 6K.

Is it the same oil filter as the UKTT?

I think I'll try to get in touch with Thor to get the nec. changes made.

Cheers

Hi Rob

I'm not sure about serious mods at this stage as the car is so clean. However, I think I will get some new wheels for it.

I'm also putting my private plate on which I need to get made up. I'll do a separate post on that.

I was thinking of some flat eyelids for the car as I sometimes think the headlights are too large.

Every time I walk into the garage (which it takes up in full!) I just say "wow" out loud. That's money well spent.

Hi

You might find that your Japanese recommendation is using the US Octane measurement standard. British Octane measurements are different. 91 US = 95 UK; 93 US = 97.5 UK; 95 US = 100 UK.
