Guest Bigwheels2
Ive decided Im in the market for a nice supra after years of drooling over other owners So where is best to find one besides autotrader/ebeg , After 12 years of vws and 50 odd of them at that, i feel Im going into this a bit blind. so:- 1.are there any major common faults i should look for? 2.are leather front seats available? 3.is there an insurance company linked to this club. Im after a 3.0 nonTurbo (merseyside postcode insurance rating is the same as Iraq) colour any except red manual is a must hisory/extras would be nice Ive got £5800 to play with. thanks in advance for your help Paul
Nic
Ive decided Im in the market for a nice supra after years of drooling over other owners Very strange behaviour So where is best to find one besides autotrader/ebeg Check out the for sale section and the traders section on the forum, better to buy from someone who knows all about the Supra, rather than some of the dodgy traders out there, who know little about the car and claim all sorts of crap. You might also want to contact 'Jurgen' member on here who has a good reputation for importing cars for members. After 12 years of vws and 50 odd of them at that, i feel Im going into this a bit blind. There is a huge wealth of very good information on this forum, suggest you use the SEARCH button and read as much as possible. I would also take your time finding the right car, test drive as many as possible. I would also see if there are any members local to you/or the car you are looking at who could help check it out. so:- 1.are there any major common faults i should look for? Read [thread=23259]THIS THREAD[/thread] The Supra is a very well built car with no/very few faults. Many cars now will be getting on in age though so there will be usual wear and tear, there are also a lot of shabby cars that have not been well maintained that should be avoided. 2.are leather front seats available? Yes they came as an option on the Jap spec Supras. 3.is there an insurance company linked to this club. Yes see 'club affiliations' in 'Club Extras' drop down menu above. Im after a 3.0 nonTurbo (merseyside postcode insurance rating is the same as Iraq) colour any except red manual is a must Don't write off the auto many members had the same opinion about only wanting a manual and ended up buying an auto after driving one. Suggest you have a test drive in an auto before making your mind up. You'll probably also find autos are cheaper. hisory/extras would be nice You'll find very few Jap cars with any history, look for a car that has been well maintained and is genuine, this is where taking along a member who knows the Supra can help you. Don't get hung up on modifications such as bodykits, pod airfilters and big bling wheels, you'd be much better off getting a well looked after clean car. A decent after market exhaust and a nice set of wheels are a benefit but don't get influenced too much by mods. Ive got £5800 to play with. thanks in advance for your help Paul Good luck with your search, take your time and you will find the right car. If you view a car take a camera with you and get as much information about it as possible (worth writing down so you remember) and post details here before handing over you money, so we can give you an opinion. Digsy
3.0 nonTurbo (merseyside postcode insurance rating is the same as Iraq) Bizzarrely enough, you may well find that insuring an NA works out dearer than a TT. Strange but true, possibly because the NAs might be rarer. Its worth getting quotes on both. The running costs aren't that different, either. But with a £5800 budget it is going to have to be an N/A
