VVTI Speedo Converter / Speed delimiter Product Interest

Hi all

I have just been chatting to Tony and Pete in THOR

They currently have the prototype of a speedo converter/ speed delimiter for vvti supras.

Its still in the early stages and some issues remain to be sorted.

As we all know the standard speedo converter/speed delimiter does not work properly on the vvti engine.

Are there many here that would be interesed in such a device.

If I can give Tony and Pete a list of interested people he might be persuaded to hurry the process up a bit.

This is not a group buy.

Its more to guage interest in the product, so the guys in vortex can assess if its worth their while.

John

I have just found out I have an HKS SLD on my VVTi Tip. Any idea what function this performs other than the limiter? There's also a small box with CK-SP-14 written on, which looks like a kph/mph converter but doesn't seem to be actually connected to the ECU. I'm worried about the possible kickdown problems at high speed associated with the tiptronics.

see recent cry for help in tech....'98 VVTI Tip-Tronic with random TPS problem...I dont know what Converter / Delimiter Ive got (car is ex JIC) but if this new one from Thor is available anytime soon I want one, like yesterday...is a dodgy de-limiter suspect number one now ?

Not sure what you mean?

I've definately not got the 112mph speed restriction.

Are the ones fitted to most VVTI's at present giving inaccurate speed conversions.

I've got some little black box with 3 wires connected to the terminals on the back of the speedo, will that be it (speedo converter)?

Please explain why there would be a need to replace it with one from Thor. ;)

Maybe it's not a problem an manual cars, Merckx. It somewhat messes up the gearchanges on Autos and Tiptronics, kickdown at the wrong time, stuff like that.

Do you not have any problem with the Trac going into Snow Mode all the time?

Yes, when I was using the trac control it did sometimes go into snow mode.

But I've got RLTC now and so switch the trac control off.

So I shouldn't need one.

Thanks Jake :)

Fascinating!

Didn't realise others had problems with speed converters on their VVTI's (99 RZS Tiptronic).

Mine was delivered by JIC & worked happily for a year then suddenly stopped converting and produced km's only. Had JEM replace the unit (not sure what with) and its never worked properly since! Won't register beyond 102mph! I've got a Snooper so I can see the real speed on that.

JEM were crap. I asked them about it & they said there was nothing wrong with the unit so it must be the sender. Strange that the sender and unit would both fail simultaneously!

Mine's a JIC car and I guess they fitted the little blue jobbie in my pics above.

You mean your speedo doesn't read anything more than that, but you go faster?

Hmmm....

The bit that worried me mostly is the chance of kick down at high speed random times.

The 102mph it records isn't accurate anyway - its really only about 93mph - since it tends to over register by about 9%.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with kickdown though.

Don't know what units JIC originally fitted because these were removed by JEM. I presume they would have been the same since both cars are VVTI Tip's and JIC supplied.
