Turning up the wick a little

Hi all, recently purchased a jap tt auto stock ceramics.

Has a few good mods, full exhaust and decats, front mount intercooler, autobox cooler, mines ecu, aem afr gauge and wideband etc.

Its currently running 15.3psi or just about a bar or so.

I have an aem boost controller fitted so is it worth setting my max boost as 17.4 psi, roughly 1.2 bar?

Will it be a noticeable boost on power, no pun intended or is it worth leaving it as is? (read safe)

Should i take it to a rolling road to do it so they can check everything out injectors etc and fuel pump?

Hi congrats.

Definitely get those ceramics running 1.2bar, you’ll feel a noticeable difference. Has the fuel pump ever been replaced do you know? If not go for a Walbro 255 or better still a 485 for more headroom at a latter stage.

You’ll be on the stock 440cc injectors so can run 1.2 bar fine and that is the recognised limit of the Ceramic J-Spec turbos although others have boosted to 1.4 bar fine......reliability might take a battering though!

Get the car down to SRD in Surrey for a through health check and AFR reading on their dyno.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the great reply, im based in north wales so surrey isnt probably my local rolling road. The only thing i dont know if its been upgraded is the fuel pump.

The car was owned by alex a member on here and then another member dave, from norfolk. I dont know when the mods were done and if it was before the car was imported?

It may well be worth just leaving it alone. Its not exactly slow now to be fair. Just thought if the powers there for free i should use it. Like you say its better to have a running happy engine than potentially melt it for an extra 2psi
The majority of cars are running BPU at 1.2 bar fine mate. If you have or get a boost controller then you can switch between 1 and 1.2 bar when you feel like it for a safer bet.

I'm a 3 hour drive as well.

I'd drive 10 hours if it meant the car was done spot on.

I had a 4 hour train journey to whifbitz first time I collected car when he was in Enfield.

The cost of the travel is cheap compared to the priceless value of getting it setup right.

Imagine going somewhere local and it costing a fortune if not setup right.

Sorry, i should have specified im in north wales, whifbitz is near cardiff. So a 3hour drive for that.

I'm a 7hour round trip just to drop the car off, then I travel back down to collect when work is done. The train was really cheap too. If it's a quick job I'd set off early doors and hang around the town down their whilst Dan fixed it.

I made the stupid mistake of trusting someone much closer, twice in fact (two different garages, one supposedly a Supra Specialist). I'd never take mine anywhere else other than Whifbitz or SRD. If you try to skimp on cost and travel you'll pay many times over to put it right, just like I did.

My car has been running 1.2bar for the last 7 years, runs like a bat out of hell.

My low boost map is 0.9bar, car is quick, but 1.2bar is just all that better..

Last dyno was 270wkw on 102 octane..(With Mines ECU)

Go out in 600 + single ;)
