How quick in each Gear for a Supe

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question after a slightly worrying comment from a friend....

He's running a road angel and reckons that when his speedo is showing 120 his road angel says he's only doing 105!

It's in a skyline with 18" wheels, so I would have guessed that the reading would have been fairly close to true speeds.

Anyway back to the question in hand. As a rough guide my car will travel at 100 at just under 3500 RPM in 6th gear, oh and I'm also running 18's.

Does this sound about right?

It looks as though my speedo is fairly accurate then...

His other comment was - "I can't believe you got to 160 cmPH that quickly!" Jealousy is a terrible thing! :D

Good info, is that changing at red line or all at 7000rpm? as apparently I should be hitting 90+ in 3rd, I'm positive I only hit 80, and 105 in 4th

Also how is it that the v161 box hits higher speeds in each gear when compared to the v160 it takes more revs to hit each speed?

1st to 4th on the V161 are longer (taller) than the 160 and 6th is shorter. This means the RPM drops are different.

I the real world jumping from a V160 to a V161 you can't really notice the difference...though the V161 should be better geared for a BPU/APU car as it won't max out 4th down the 1/4mile but a the V160 probably would.

Why would I be hitting such lower speeds in each gear compared to the article?

Possibly beacause your revs are over reading....ever tried bouncing off the rev limiter or attaching something like a Blitz R-VIT to give you a didtal RPM read out. All of the dials on the Supra are inaccurate at best...my speedo over reads by about 10mph at times and the revs over read too according to the eManage.
