Original Supra Tyres

Does anyone know what tyres the UK Supra rolled out from the factory on? Appreciate there might of been a few varieties as the years of production progressed but any ideas of the exact spec?

Thanks

When i read about old tyres even stored ones degrading purely because they are

in the atmosphere then i won't be buying any.

I took this from a website i found

Tires age dangerously because of a chemical process commonly referred to as oxidation, which simply means that as the tire components are exposed to oxygen, the oxygen particles cause the flexible components of a tire to harden and become brittle. Over time, the tire will simply fall apart under normal stress, just like an old rubber band. Because this process occurs naturally, it does not matter if a tire is being used, stored as a spare, or simply waiting on a store shelf for an unsuspecting consumer

What about the 24 year old spare I’ve got dunk? Will that be useless as I’ve never changed it and I think it’s an original tyre.

I guess if its made from the same material as a normal tyre then it will age the same

It is only a space saving spare and shouldn't be used over 50 mph and only used to get

you home or to the a tyre shop to get your punctured tyre fixed or replaced so the risk

is much less than if it was on the car all the time and running at higher speeds etc

From memory the original Michelin pilot sport had some thread left on it but there were hair line cracks all over tire side wall and threads, that tire had only 30k on it and was only 11yrs old at time. Hence it was first thing that was replaced 4 new tires also I think 245/4517 is far nicer fit then original 235/45/17 up front.

You wouldn't fit a 20 yr old tyre then ?

I wouldn't fit old stock,

Talk of stock and NOS drilled right down to tyres, your conversion appears complete. Its a very sensible transformation investment wise.

As far as tyres are concerned your chances of finding old Pilots sitting on a shelf somewhere and available to buy is probably about as good as landing the jackpot on the lottery. There is a market in manufacturing, new, old style cross-ply and early radial tyres for those who want the exactly as it rolled out of the factory look but that is only just catching up with 1990's rubber and the prices are truly wide eye inspiring. But, as a owner of several classic cars there isn't much I haven't delved into over the years and if you don't mind paying that specialised premium you could start here.

Smaller wheel size but they will be able to tell you if there are 17s available.
