started the caliper paint

ok guys started to do the long awaited caliper re paint , so having a good look around now the wheel is off all looks ok apart from the rubber gator on the shock is that part of it or a separate part, it has a split at the bottom

Shock? Or the guide pins on the caliper?

Either way if it’s made of rubber it’s a different part to the metal so comes off.

like a rippled rubber sleeve over the shock behind the spring

It's a dust boot, to keep debris off the hydraulic ram. I doubt there's many cars left with them fitted

You can get them from toyota. Use cable ties at the bottom to seal them

ok just had another look as I was putting another coat of paint on , its nearly torn all the way round about two bumps up from the bottom , not an mot fail is it

You can get them new from TCB, IIRC about £28 plus vat each.

ok thanks mate ill keep that in mind , caliper decals had a look on e bay is that the type , the ones with the red line under the name looked like the one I just sanded off about 8.50 for a set

Yes mate that’s the ones, since I’ve done my full rebuild on mine probably over a year ago now those decals are still on and not flaked off.

ok rob ric just replied and I think they are the same , I'm going for a matt black rob so once the stickers are on not going to laquer will that be ok

rob ive got j specs on the back and uk on the front will the rears be ok or to big

I never lacquered over mine and been fine mate. I’m not sure as mine are UK all round, I thought they did an option for what size caliper you have? I could be wrong tho.

Here’s a couple of old pics of the calipers using that foliatec caliper paint, which I must admit I wasn’t that impressed with.

See the rear caliper decals do fill up the whole face of the caliper so not sure about sizing on the Jspec rears.

ive just used high temp matt black , ive had it ages but never got round to doing it so today is the start lol

fronts done rears to small to get the sticker on

one more question if you look at the disc its got R on it , I take it it means right , so is it right standing in front of the car , which would be correct , or right in the car which its wrong , or doesn't it matter, id finished the other side so didn't notice if it had L on it , and I wasn't going to go back round and take the wheel off lol

The discs are handed mate because of the air flow veins. “R” is offside and “L” is near side, so it looks like they are on the incorrect way round or you may have 2 offside discs fitted.

probably buy some new ones got new pads I won off CW, I had them years ago from scooter I think and was put on by a Toyota specialist at the time lol , still havnt come to any harm and brakes work ok
