Aerial fitting question.....

Hi all, today my electric aerial stopped working.

It is stuck in the up position.

I can hear the motor spinning but it doesn’t retract.

I’m thinking that it’s just the mast that needs replaced.

Is this a common fault/fix?

Any tips on how to fit a new mast?

I see whifbitz have them new, but happy to take a good used one if anyone has a spare..

Ta

Bloody thing!! :(

Went to change this at lunchtime and found that the plastic toothed cable in my original aerial is way shorter than the one on the new aerial.

Seems that it has snapped and some is still in the motorised part of the set up.

Can the motorized unit be split down or opened up to allow me to get the broken section out of it, or would I have to get a new unit?

Also, does anyone have a definitive answer as to which way the teeth should face for them to 'catch' and be wound in. I've seen some documents on the web saying they should face towards the rear of the car, and then I've seen this contradicted on some forums. When I removed my old one the teeth were pointing to the side, but thats due to the cable having snapped and turned.

Any advice would be appreciated before I have a go at the weekend

many thanks

Michael
