That is the big problem ... you cannot see inside.

You will never know how it is.

For example, a damaged syncro will still be fine if you change gears at mid revs without too much boost ; even during a test drive without giving it the beans (e.g. pussy driving mode) , you won't know.

That's the metal locking ring for the prop flange nut. It's obviously been undone and then neither replaced nor nicely locked back on the inside and outside. the fact someone deemed the need for a triple plate clutch to handle the engin's torque suggests it has not exactly had an easy life. if you find it has been drag raced as well, i'd move swiftly along. Short of trying a `box in a running car, on the road, or stripping it fully, you are going to have to trust the vendor implicitly. I still maintain that lack of spares and big labour costs for maintaining old Getrags will flatter the price of nice auto models at some crossover point in the future.
