Jspec/UK TT, Airbox

Hi, anyone know if the factory Airbox of a Jspec, 1998 TT, VVTi with MAF sensor is the same as the UK TT Airbox? The Airbox I'm after: Toyota # 17700-46350 and MAF sensor Toyota # 22204-46010.

I don't think they are. Certainly a different part number. Join the queue for a vvti airbox, been looking for a year and not seen one

 

ETA: Looks like MAF housing is a separate bit of pipe on a UK spec. VVTI is moulded into the outlet of the box.

That's not to say one couldn't be made to fit I guess. If the MAF sensor has the same connection in both cars???

I thought the UK MAF housing was moulded into the airbox

Where are you thinking the MAF is mounted in that picture? As far as I can see on the parts catalogue, the round outlet (right of your pic) is extended in a vvti box and is where the MAF attaches. The UK spec has a separate pipe that holds the maf that attaches to that outlet.

That's right, the MAF sensor on the UK is part number 22250-46030, and is not an integral part of the airbox, as Dunk stated, it's just the housing.

Perhaps i should have worded maf housing differently as i think thats where the confusion is, i meant where the maf fits to the airbox not the maf itself,

Can a na air box be fitted to a tt if i make up my own pipe work ?? or is the box not the same ?

Can't see why not and would be fairly easy to do i'd have thought, apart from where the maf fits they look very similar to me

Thanks for that, been waiting a few years for a TT one. will chop my hks rs one up, that should do the trick .

The Jspec n/a Airbox will bolt in but there's a big clearance issues with smic pipe and the snorkel extends too close to the engine, therefore factory intake pipe won't fit. I'll send some photos of a n/a airbox dummies in my tt once I work out how to send.

Surely it would be easy enough to modify the pipe coming out of the airbox and make a custom pipe to go from the MAF to the no 4 airtube. I had custom silicon hoses made when i changed my stock pipework and still ran the maf with no problems, i'm not sure why you'd have a problem with the smic pipework so look forward to your photos

That's a Jspec SZ Airbox dummied into my Jspec 98 RZ-S twin turbo VVTi. Note: the extreme end of the outlet is not mid-aligned. There are two adjacent mounting flanges.
