Local engine builder (Cambridgeshire)

Hi just wondering if anyone on supra forum local to Cambridgeshire would be willing to help build my short block.

I am after someone who knows what they doing as have spent a lot of money on the all the new parts including new crack and over £2k on the forged internals.

I am not confident enough to do it on my own and don't really trust giving engine and parts to someone and leaving it with them duo to amount spent.

I willing to pay of course for the help and am based in Peterborough.

Just waiting on the last few bits to turn up from Toyota and get crank back so can order right size king bearings.

Any help would be much appreciated

Just take it to SRD - it's going to be done by a known trusted company. Had my engine rebuilt by Lee and the team, no regrets and no problems

That's my back up plan taking it SRD or MGT to be build but really would like to see it being built duo to amount of time and money invested plus was unsure about bringing short block back in car without damaging anything

Easy to transport an engine in a decent sized car.

It's not a 2min job to rebuild so I think it unrealistic to watch/help

The money invested in the block you want certainty that's it's going to work, I shipped my car down once the engine was ready and had SRD fit so that I knew that I was getting it back running...

Best thing is to call Lee and get on the list or at least discuss options....

I have spoke to lee fair few times to get his advice on what parts to buy for the engine, and will give him ring to see what he can do,and I understand it's not 2min job have built few ford engines in my time but nothing with the cost like spent on this engine that's why I am nervous about doing it myself.

Sounds like you just need the push [emoji23]

Like a lot of people I can vouch 100% for Lee so get it down there and get it built [emoji1303]

I know his work is 2nd to none but will just have to see what it's going to cost and how long got to wait putting me off as know the short block can be built easy in a day as every part has been balanced and checked so it just needs building.

People talk like the supra is some magically complex engine that can only be built by a specialist. Any quality engine builder can build it back up no problem. Its a pretty basic straight six that any good engine man should be able to do in his sleep.

With that said SRD are always a safe bet, know their stuff big time.

I'm just down the road to you in harlow...

I take my supra to Darren at whiftbitz in the enfield branch, 15 minutes away from me, Darren knows his stuff as i'm sure others will verify this.

Oh yea I know Darren is good aswell but just wanted to be part of building it after all the expense, just nervous about handing it over to someone after all the expense

I agree with that 100%, that's why was asking for some help as know what I doing more or less, I have been quoted around £600 from local'ish engine builder but my 1st choice would be to build it at home with someone who knows what doing as working 11hour night shifts will be right pain delivering and picking up engine.

If get no joy then will ring them both and see what's what, plus always have Mark at MGT as know him and he great engine builder and will have it together in day for me.

I will ask at work tomorrow for you.

We've built loads of JZ's over the years so Im sure Bob would be happy for you to come down and see whats what - my engine will be nudging 1000bhp when built with full Ferrea valvetrain and Nitrous if that puts your mind at ease about what we do, starting on a Darton MID sleeved Focus RS with 500bhp+ next week, dragging our 630bhp 1JZ BDC Pro driftcar up to Scotland tomorrow etc etc !!

We're near Colchester, so just over an hour away.

Thank you very much for that, I also run nitrous on my supra and my overall goal will be around 750-800bhp but building block to take over 1000bhp as only want to do this once

If you have built Ford engines you can build your 2JZ, its not rocket science, and essentially they are no different, if the crank has been properly ground and the correct bearings supplied then there should be no need to plactiguage the the journals, so should be a straightforward assembly, what is it that's bothering you about building it?

Oh yea I understand it's not rocket science, just would of liked someone who knows what doing with me checking it as always good to have extra experience and eyes and I know I properly being silly being nervous which I think is down to the amount I have spent on this build

You have Lyndale Engines on your doorstep Keith, Turtleshead put me onto them and they have been great for various bits and pieces I have used them for.

I haven't heard many good things about Lyndale engines that's why didn't consider them, but may be worth a chat and see what they say.

just get it to srd and do right first time. the thread in my opinion is pointless

The only issue with taking it SRD is the distance duo to me working nights all the time and how long would take plus how much would cost but will give Lee ring next week and have chat.

Fensport know Toyotas very well indeed. Based in Warboys.

I don't really trust fensport duo to quality if the aftermarket parts they sell but thanks anyway.
