I honestly thought id be able to get into a Manual TT mk4 but the prices are

What would work best if i were to work around my budget and have a project....

Manual N/A and convert to turbo

or...

TT with an auto box and look to convert to 6sp?

Opinions please guys

Thanks

Chris

NA manual possibly around £6-7K and then a TT engine £3-4K will put you in a car to all intents and purposes the same as a STOCK TT6.

The problems you'll have are sourcing a decent TT engine, then not getting carried away and tuning it and then destroying your 5 speed.

im manual through and through the auto box is not good even in manual mode.fact

the price of 6 speeds puts me off so id go with your option 1

I'm manual through and through for any car, however something tells me you've never driven an TT auto...

The A340e is a very good transmission. Shifts smooth, good gear ratio's and is really up to it's task for touring and spirited driving (up to a point ofcourse).

Before I bought my TT A/T I was only looking for the 6spd, as all my other cars were always manual cars as well. But after driving a TT A/T for more than a hour it completely changed my mind.

Do I prefer a 6spd? Probably yes. But the a340e is very, very well suited for the MKIV.

Go with a tt auto (it suits the supra, wish mine was a auto sometimes for ease of life). then when funds are available go for a 6speed or a alternative manual box as there seem to be some good adaptor kits available.

I agree with what Ant has said above! Theres times I stayed auto and went built box instead of 6 speed, but back then it was all about future proofing.

To the OP - if you get the chance go out in a TT auto, you won't be disappointed as they are a great box and the kick down you get is awesome!

Having the option, I would go VVTi every time as there are no longer any downsides with regards to tuning.

Top end of your budget would get you a nice automatic example;
