To anyone buying a supra and thinking

Hello all...As some of you may know i have had my supra for over a year now,its a TT J SPEC 6S MANUAL,at 17 i worked as a paint sprayer and often done work for a local performance car specialist,i loved motorsport etc and at 18 i bought my 1st hot hatch...a 205 1.9 gti,after that i bought the car i had always wanted a R5 gt turbo,at around 19...the R5 still and will always have a place in my heart,i then went on to a GTI-R by then i was working in a factory as a machine setter,i had problems with the GTI-R ..gearbox...clutch..etc that broke me on a regular basis and made me think about owning such cars...then i bought back my old gt turbo and went on to buying the car of my dreams a supra.Now i looked and looked for ages i knew i wanted a manual and a TT,so after many test drives etc i bought a 1994 white supe from a now freind in reading.The 1 thing than worried me when buying was could i afford the car?could i run the car?and should i go for the n/a,after all im only a factory worker,and the answer is yes!!!it has far been the best built car i have ever owned ,and i have owned a few.bmw 325i...gtir...gt turbo.. etc etc,in a year or so i have replaced the clutch which in a gtir is a massive and expensive job and as the garage said that replaced the clutch in the supe it was a doddle,performance is amazing and yes the tt is affordable,i am so pleased i got the tt and didnt go for the n/a not that its a bad choice its just i knew i wanted better performance,these cars are so reliable.apart from the clutch everything else i have replaced has been of my own choice.What i want to say is ya dont have to be on big$$$ to own a supe,if you look after it....it will look after you...fuel wise my gti-r was far worse and the gt turbo was mabye a bit better.now i have got a few pints on board here :p but like i said to a kid tonight,if you really wana supe then go for it,,,IMHO you dont have to be mr big $$$$$ to have the car of your dreams.

nice to hear a positive Supra story for a change :)

 

I promise this isn't BS:

Last night I had a dream that I had sold my Supra and swapped it for a red Ferrari (thick it was the 360). I was genuinely relieved to see the soops silver ass sticking out of the garage when I went downstairs for breakfast!

I paid £9,500 for my black 93 UK TT in September and so far it's cost me around £2000 (mostly in repairs)....at least.

 

Don't get me wrong, I adore my car.....when it's working and isn't costing me a fortune.

 

So far I've had to shell out for a new starter motor (including £100 to get it to the garage on the back of a flatbed truck since it's an auto). Also needed a new front headlight as it was leaking water. Offside rear wishbone was broken. Oil cooler broken and oil cooler pipes leaking, but now replaced.

 

Now I need to get the front wing resprayed as the paint chipped and peeled off while cleaning the car. My Toyota amp is broken and so is the headunit. I've just bough a new ashtray for it as that was broken too. The front tyres cost £270 (tracking was out) and I've just paid £75 for Toyota to carry out an oil change as the "Low Oil" warning light was on.

 

Add to that the 100,000 mile service coiming up shortly and I'm beginning to think that this car is a money pit.

 

Oh and my battery keeps draining which I think is down to my Toad alarm. Oh and there's a knocking noise coming from the rear brakes too, which I'm choosing to ignore as Toyota will be more than happy to fix at god knows what cost! Thankfully they give me a 10% discount on parts and labour otherwise I'd cry.

 

When will it all end?..........probably never. I'm just hoping that the turbos are still healthy as they are the originals.

 

Saying all of this though, the Supra TT is my dream car and I've always wanted to own one. Now that I do I'm a happy bunny (except for the above problems).

 

Now if I only I could get above 20mpg.

But surely you were pissed off coz ya could of sold the Modena, bought a Supra and gone wild on bodystyling and still had enough money left to put Optimax in it too!

The wing had somehow been damaged and had a bad repair on it. Thankfully it was just the paint. The wing itself is undented.

 

My power washer tore a small chunk of paint about the size of a £2 coin off the wing and left the primer showing underneath. It didn't look too bad. A bit like a bird shit.

 

But when Toyota changed the oil and filters on Friday they washed the car and took off more paint in the same area. Doh! I can't really blame them as it was already damaged.

 

Anyway I'm taking the car round to see a sprayer tonight. He reckons £100 all in to respray the whole wing. Thankfully my Supra is black so the pain should hopefull match. Although it is 12 years old.

 

I've seen his spraying work on my mate's white Veilside Supra. His name's Mark and I'm not sure if he's a member here?

To be honest mate, a lot of those could would have had noticable signs when you bought the car in September.

 

Wishbones, tyres, leaking oil, broken amplifiers etc. Last oil changes should have been indicated on the SH of the car that you surely got with a UK?

 

At least now that you have replaced them you will hopefully be okay :tumble:
