View Full Version : Battery needed for Punto
Crappy Punto needs a new battery, Fiat are asking for £65 plus a shocking £15.40 to fit it (yeah right!), the local car spares place is also suggesting £60 - this seems a bit high for a normal battery to me?
The current battery is a Fiamm jobby - rated at 12v, 400AH, 200A and measuring approx 175mm(L)x170mm(W)x185(H).
Does anyone know of any sources for cheap batteries or a more widely available alternative that I can use? Costco have a load at £25 but none are exactly right, the nearest in dimension is a 12v, 43Ah, 390A and their fitment list doesn't include the newer car like mine :(
The car is a 2000 Punto ELX with the 1.2 16v engine, any input would be really appreciated.

I work at motorvogue which is the fiat, seat & alfa romeo dealership in northampton. Its probably no good to you but i think our batteries are £50ish but from a dealer thats about as good as your gonna get ?

As long as the AH, and cranking are higher i'd say your safe to use it.
I take it the cosco one is 430AH? not 43 you put down? or vice-versa

Just to let you know mate they can run on petrol too!! Use it most of the time in my Punto and only batteries if I run out of fuel!!!

Thanks for the info, I suspect it's the usual Fiat thing where they decide to use odd parts that nobody else shares so the price goes up :)
I'm in Leeds, currently dealing with Picadilly Fiat in Wakefield over a huge list of problems I have with the car.

Pet... what? I know the Supra uses that liquid stuff all the time but the Punto never seems to need any ;)

If I remember correctly it means 400amp per hour and 200amps in max (crank over). I dont think the H or h makes any diffrence
The one in Costco *definately* says 43Ah and the one on the car 430AH (I double checked last night) - so I'm confused now :)
£60 bloody hell! the one i got from ENVY for the supra weren't that much!
I had a quick look on Yell and found a battery specialist a mile from my office that I wasn't aware of - gave them a call and they sorted me out for £29 inc VAT :)
Got the AH bit completely wrong, I blame the lockets / lemsip combo I'm on - the exisiting one was a 40AH so the Costco battery would probably have done the job but I'm fixed now anyway :)
Just have to wait and see if this fixes things.
you got any car breakers near by Mike? Got one for my sons Punto...came of a rearended 2004, got it for a £10
Near a few breakers but hadn't really thought about calling for a battery - doh! Was on the phone to a couple earlier in the week trying to find out about other bits too, never thought!

michael go to town hall batterys just off armley gyratory heading towards tong road. they real cheap for batterys. i went up other day to buy one for supra, they were saying its special order to get one now with small jap style terminals.
i am going to convert over to standard uk battery so will be cheaper for batterys.
a 450 amp supra battery is £32 a 650amp battery is £38
so a tiny punto battery wont be too expensive.
Thanks Mark, I got one from 5 Star Batteries in Rothwell yesterday though, £25 plus Vat so I was happy enough with that :)
