what brakes do i have/caliper seize

Could someone please tell me what brake pads/part number i need for my 97 n/a, the diameter of the disc is 295mm and 16mm thick i could hear some squealing yesterday from the nearside rear so this afternoon i took it to pieces to find that the pads only have about 3mm left on them and that the wear detector on the pad was making the noise being in contact with the disc, so just to get me around locally i got the angle grinder out and ground it back, i also checked the piston in the caliper (undid the reservoir cap) pumped it right forward but had to get a 'g' clamp on it to get the piston to retract fully, after a road test the disc/wheel is now quite hot, my second question is what is the best way to go about recon this caliper, can i just pop the piston out clean it all up with emery in a lathe and put it back together

It sounds like you need a referb kit for your callipers, not expensive about £28 form Toyota if I remember correctly. You also need some fluid, probably no need to go as fare as a lathe. The slider may also be a bit stiff.

thats got the same type of relocating spacer i have on my supra.its the only way my 17" split rims fit on my car.
they look like jap spec to me

think they need some work to bring them back to life

i tried to clean mine up a bit with drill and wire brush,also had a go on the wishbone`s they come up a treat not that you can see them

Only just found the image attached. That disc looks shagged. 3mm on a pad is fine1mm is the limit before the squealer hits the disc. My TT rear were running 1.5 mm of pad until a couple of days ago with and squealing. Could be the disc is so warn that the metal tag was hitting the part of the disc not warn away. Have you checked disk thickness limit should be stamped on the disc.

In side the calliper the rubber seal has probably gone hard making the piston stick on braking.

They look just the same as Jap TT rears to me.

i must apologise to the group for my rude/none introduction of myself my name is nick broomhead and i live in macclesfield, cheshire, i have owned my 97 gunmetal n/a for around 6 months now the car is totally standard apart from 18" rh rims, image below, thanks for the information i never thought about disc being so worn the 'squealer' was rubbing the unworn part, possibly time for new discs.
