A friend of mine has just had a car serviced at 'reputable' dealer, and they put 10-40W oil in...

Now if I am not mistaken, this seems far to lightweight for it...

Any comments...

should be fine. 15w50 would be better eg Mobil 1 Motorsport but 10w40 should be ok too.

Thats what I run in my 98 STI Type-R, I use Millers brand

It depends which year it is.

2000 onwards the manual recommends 5w-40 or 10w-40

Give me the details and I'll look it up for you.
