Have finally today got round to fitting my new Walbro Pump. All fitted ok but am having problems putting the screw cap on (the bit that holds the pump and sender unit in place in the tank). Just cant get the dam thing to screw back on.
Any tips?
Any one else had the same problem?
Would it be worth replacing?

Thanks

It's a bastard. You need to lean over it like you are doing CPR, and while pushing down evenly across the ring all the time (tricky when you have to shift your hands), rotate the ring anticlockwise (i.e. in the undo direction) until you feel it clunk down when the start of it's thread meets the start of the thread on the tank.

Then, keeping a lot of pressure on evenly, start doing it up. I hope you've got strong hands :) Once you've managed a full turn you can use the screwdriver/cloth/hammer method.

It's the only way I've found of making sure it doesn't cross thread or pop off.

I agree with Ian's method and that it's a right bugger to get back on. I faffed about with mine for about five mins before I finally get it to catch just right.
Keep trying Smarty, you'll get it in the end.

Got the bastard thing back on using the "CPR" method as described above. Also found using a bit of silicone spray on the thread made it alot easier.

Thanks for the advice guys!!

Late as usual:tumble: , mine went on with out a problem, I just used petrol to lubricate the threads.

I had to get into the boot to get enough pressure onto it

Not a pleasant job!
