Before fitting my UK brakes, I took the car out to check some braking distances at familiar junctions, corners and roundabouts. Fitted the fronts tonight and took her out to test the brakes. Without being bedded in they are fantastic.

I was stopping about 60 feet sooner than necessary using the same braking point at 60 mph. It took a while to get use to new stopping distances, slowed embarrassingly early for a couple of roundabouts. The difference in braking distances is quite remarkable.

My son noticed the improvement straight away as he kept getting thrown forward by the increased braking force. I can’t wait to compare distances when the rears are on and they are all bedded in.

Finally refurbished my SH UK rears, used a Toyota kit for the internals just to be on the safe side and some high temperature lacquer to give them the new look that should last.

They look good Phil.

Now you'll need to clean the dust off them every time you clean the car.
:D

Good job Phil!

I'll be very interested in the braking performance once you’ve fitted them. Perhaps you could report back and let us know :)

Can you buy the stickers to stick onto the brakes like in this picture from Toyota. I have seen aftermarket ones available but am always dubious until I see them on.

i dont think stickers will last long on the calipers.

The template & heat proof paint route, if it's in a light colours, doesn't either.

If you drive on the road as opposed on the track or with high performance pads (greater levels of heat) I suspect you would be okay. Use the car in anger and the heat may well cause the paints to fade.

The templates are not reusable.

The logos on my rears are the originals.
the donor car had done between 5000 and 10000 miles. They did looka little pale, but the HTL brought them up a treat as you can see above.

Finished at last. I fitted the rears tonight. So the complete system is: UK brakes front and rear, SS hoses and Mutol 500 Fluid and Stock UK pads.

At high speed the rears are very slightly more effective than the Jap rears. Around town the difference is very noticeable. More balanced braking. Last night with just UK fronts it felt like the fronts were doing all the work especially at low speeds but now I can feel the rears playing their part in the braking. Managed to stop too early again on a couple of roundabouts but got it sussed now, and can brake quite late if necessary in complete confidence. My J spec brakes were never strong enough to make ABS kick in a noticeable way, the UK set up is a different story now.

Hmmmmm………………….I wonder what the car would feel like with CW pads?

Try the Porterfield R4 pads:)
