Question re Metal Polishing

Hi.

Having had a bit of time while waiting for various bits and pieces to arrive, and having to disassemble parts of the car to fit new parts, I started to polish up a few bits and pieces.

How do I keep the nice shiny finish on the newly polished aluminium bits.

I have read conflicting advice.

Some say to clear lacquer/clearcoat, and other say to just use a good metal polish and I have also read that the best way is to use a good quality wax, like could be used on the paintwork.

How do the professional metal polishers here maintain their finish?

Many Thanks

John

If you are just refering to maintaining a mirror polished finish. I use meguires metal polish, its brilliant stuff but doesnt have any cut so I use it regularly both by hand and by machine on larger parts. If you are trying to protect items a little more exposed to the element I would use poor boys sealant over it. But it can dull the finish ever so slightly but on things like polished wheel lips it gives a nice barrier to dirt when a few layers are applied.
