Inadvertently fixed my boot release!

My '97 VVTi suffered from the common issue whereby the boot release mechanism failed to release properly, meaning that I either needed a second person to lift the boot while I held the release handle, or I'd have to use the key.

I had read threads previously which involved replacing the mechanism for the pre-facelift parts, be it the struts or the lock itself. It was never something that I bothered fixing as I just got used to it.

However, I've had the car at the bodyshop over the last few weeks, with one of the jobs being removal of the rear wiper and motor. That has cured the problem - the boot opens with the release lever every time now with no issue.

It wasn't the cheapest way of fixing it (given that it was part of a full respray ) but it definitely worked anyway.
