Car Wrapping - Recommendations and experiences

Hi all

I've been thinking a lot about getting my car wrapped. A) because I'm not a fan of silver (!) and B) to protect the original paintwork anyway. I don't like the Matt colours so it would have to be a gloss or metallic like finish.

Can anyone recommend a reputable car wrapping company within the Midlands area ideally please? I'm looking at these guys and will try and view their catalogue of colours next weekend.

I've seen the horror that lurks beneath after removing wrap, score lines and other damage sustained whilst getting the wrap to fit properly into corners. I'd be vary cautious about getting it done.

I would consider a respray first. I would be worried about moisture being trapped between the wrap and the paint and also damage fitting and removing. I have seen the paint come off with wraps that have been removed after a while and then you are into a respray anyway Greg.

Spend the money on brand new facelift lights all round, it will make a huge improvement on a silver Supra

What the paint is like after the wraps come off would be my concern.

Had to re paint the front of my supra due to the poor application of the clear coat wrap

Ant Graphics. There flawless. They do alot of Renaults cars for promos ect.. I have one of the dudes on youtube.

Easy job, do it yourself with 2 or 3 mates and you can do a car in about 2 days.

Helped do a mates Soarer on the weekend, and did a 350Z a couple of months back.

There's a myth that it's a difficult job that should be left to the professionals but it really isn't at all.

Go for Hexis or 3M and it should last around 5 years, or go for KPMF from MDP supplies and you'll probably be looking at 3-4 years.

Kmpf is not a cast material so will want to go back to its original form so will fail pretty sooner rather than later

Hexis has kind of gone down hill latley they have a few issues with there glue

3m is good

Avery supreme is Awsome

As long as them 3 good brands are used and installed correctly with out stretching your be fine , if you do stretch make sure you shrink the material before laying it down otherwise when the suns out on the car it will just pull back and shrink

Me and my friend own Sussex wrap studio

I have wrapped around 5 supras now and have wrapped mine around 4 times

My personal supra had paint work on the front bumper and rear quater so when I last removed my wrap yes it did pull abit of paint off so I rubbed it down before re wrapping

If your paint is manufactures and have not had any paint work it will be fine unless a cheap crap material is used

If you have had paint work done on your vehicle then yes there is always the chance of pulling it of but like I said it took the 4th de wrap on mine to do so

Front bumpers can not be done in one peice as the recess to the sides are to much of a stretch and it will fail if done in one peice so you will have to have an inlay some colours your notice it others you won't

if it's a hard top your have 2 neat seems running down the roof so the middle of the roof will be one large seperate peice and the rear quarters will over lap using cutting tape NO knife cutting or you will cut the paint

Sorry if my sentences or words don't make sense I am currently wrapping and just kind of fast typing this out with one hand

For the cost of a professional wrap job, I would rather just get a respray.

Sheefa that car of yours is nice to wrap £1500 any colour apart from chrome and brushed

The problem with wrapping is its a profession any monkey can get into and do a semi-reasonable job, to the untrained eye. This is where you hear the horror stories. I've been in the trade for years and wrap brand new cars for Audi before they see the showroom. You would not know they're wrapped. My advice is just the same as when you're looking for a respray: check out the previous work done and if you can speak to any previous customers (maybe a message on FB), all the better.

Go to PWPro, they're superb. They do pretty much all of the GTRs and their work is second to none. There's a waiting list, though.

OK thanks guys, I completely understand what you're saying too. I would die if the paintwork was damaged underneath as it is in fantastic condition overall. Hence I've not been keen on respraying VGC UK Spec. I'll have a think.

I would NEVER do this myself. Not worth the risk at all.

I would rather pay for a professional, experienced trades person to do it along with the warranty etc. it comes with.

I see what you're saying Mike but wrap is circa £1.5-£2k and protects (hopefully!!) original paintwork vs £4.5-£5k for a full respray COLOUR CHANGE including all the shuts, windows out, engine bay etc. So it's double the cost. Money is not actually the issue here, it's actually a question of doing what is best for the car to preserve both it's value and aesthetic appeal in my eyes.

This dawned me after I had posted. I appreciated this place is all about the ££££ what with all censorship and whatnot, but my intentions were only to help out another forum member. Feel free to remove my post and any other posts where I mention what I do for a job.

True. I did ask the question and if a member happens to be a professional wrapper then it's only fair they speak up and contact me. After all I, a long standing paid up member, asked for the advice/recommendation. I think you're being a little harsh Tyson.

If we don't stop all unauthorised trading where do we draw the line ? It would just cause more issues than it solves with people going well so and so was allowed why can't I ? It's favouritism etc if you were a trader paying the fees and someone came along and was getting business for free you would be pretty angry. No one is being victimised here I have and will do the same to anyone who does this as it is the club rules. It's the only way to be fair to everyone and make sure no one is recieving special treatment.

To be fair though, some of the club rules are only enforced when the mods want them to be. When others break them they just turn a blind eye.
