Anyone else like me amazed how high supra prices are going?

 

I just can't believe 2008 you could easily get a TT auto for 4k and in white. Na s were as low as 1500. Admittedly I always thought they were under priced for their performance, looks and cult following. They still are cheap compared to nsx s and r34 s etc. Just waiting for u.s. to start importing them :sly:

Yes surprised, as some thought they would continue to go the way of the mkiii's. It will be telling who invests money in them as they all start to need it though, other appreciating classics get restored at least partially and command good money whilst shabby ones can be peanuts, which represents the money required to get one into the shape of the other.

 

Right now I see all supra's riding a mini revival wave so the poor are in with the good and the price differential is minimal as the purchasers aren't too picky and aren't willing to pay the premuim for a good/excellent one. I can see perhaps the gap widening the lower quality ones ending up at keron's the good ones appreciating a little. The thing with the mkiv is that not a lot kills them outright so buyers can try one and think it's all good when it's a bit tired/nearly shagged!

I say this all the time you could pick up leggy pre facelift TTs from 3k a few years ago and N/As Autos were anything from £1200.

 

A cheap TT Auto now Is 7kish and N/A autos are around 3/4K

 

 

Prices are going up and up which is only a good thing hopefully they will go up in the future when the UK have sold all the shit examples to the US.

I think we need to give some of the pioneers and boundary pushers a lot of credit too. The fact that the EKanoo Racing Supra is the fastest import in the world goes a LONG way, as well as loads of others that keep pushing these cars to new heights.

Yep, kids as young as 10 years old know about mkiv supra's! Thanks to YouTube video's of some insanely quick cars.

 

I once drove my white Supra to a school I mentored in and one of the kids was telling his groups of mates these cars are running 1000bhp :D

 

With more and more cars being crashed each year through new learner driving a powerful RWD and some being broken, the prices will be heading only one way.

 

Which is great when you think most folks buy a car and expect it to lose quite a bit of money each year.

That's the way I can financially justify running a Supra every day. It costs less to run than most modern economical cars when depreciation is accounted for.

 

Life's too short to drive something boring :)

On the subject of US importing..just look at how the prices of R32 GTR Skyline's are set to rise by about a 1/3rd now they have turned 25 years old ! :O so in theory would we see the values of 1990 and older MK3 supra's rise ? and thus be an indicator of/if 1993 MK4's will say rocket in 2018 ?

Had this very discussion with a colleague who was moaning about how much money I was wasting on cars with huge engines. He was telling me how he can get 50mpg on his Audi. I just pointed out his car which is only a few years old has lost £10k in depreciation :D

The only reason most people kick around in new cars is because they are either ticked up to the eyeballs or they don't actually own the car and are only hiring it.

 

I doubt I would ever purchase a car in such a way. If I can't afford to own it then I don't want it.

Glad to see the Supra finally beginning to climb in value.

 

I'm probably gonna change to a different car in the near future but would have to keep the Supra stored as I fear it may not be affordable to buy one if I decided to return.

Supra IV prices will continue to rise with many specialists saying the sky is the limit. 5 years ago there were over 150 Supras listed across eBay, Autotrader and Pistonheads. Today its under 20. The numbers of registered cars are unchanged with imports replacing broken or written off cars so it would seem owners are hanging onto the cars.

 

Limited supply which exceeds demand means prices will continue to firm until the supply meets demand. With increasing rarity, that could be something that is never quite attained which is good news for all owners of the good, the bad or even the plastic wrapped ugly Supra.

Part if the reason there are so few for sale now is that do many have been exported to France, Germany, Sweden etc. There are generally more UK specs for sale in France and Germany than in the UK now.

 

A few years ago, the German equivalent of autotrader would maybe have 5-10 Supras for sale at any one time. Now there are many times that amount, and the majority are rhd.

Think the majority of us saw this coming, I bought my first supra 6 years ago now and paid top wack of 5k (NA5) back then this was high, spent a fortune on it despite the prices plumiting to a couple of grand, rode out the bad price spell and this year sold it for more than I paid by a fair pacentage. (obvuiously didnt make back my mod money)

 

I only sold up to buy my TT6 as with the rate of price increases, there was no chance I would have ever owned one if I didnt sease the oportunity. I see the new car as an investment, I have no interest in selling it BUT if I fall on hard times looking at todays prices, I can forsee me getting my money back and then some despite spending alot on it already.

 

I personally think if anyone is looking to get into ownership buy the best you can afford now, before you get priced out the market, (unless money is no object).

Prices have risen dramatically in just the past year.

I bought my near on immaculate na5 for 2300 little over a year ago. Yes it needed a couple of bits (mostly interior trim) but once all that was sourced for about £400 it owed me circa 2700.

F&F7 was released and all of a sudden I owned a 4k car!

Now with everything iv done to it essentially overhauling the entire car I wouldn't part with it for any less than 7k

It is shocking the amount of folks that finance cars out, putting down a small deposit and then paying monthly payments on a car that would drastically lose value.

 

I guess we need these folks to pick up our bargains :D
