DIY APR Mirrors

Continuing my dedication to all things DIY (I have a rear light led project on the go at the moment as well as headlight angel eye project) I've decided to have a go at making my own APR style mirrors.

I've always fancied a set but I've been unsure on whether I'd like them, and how driver friendly they are - and didn't fancy forking out the £250+ for a set in case I decide against them.

So I got myself a second set of wing mirrors and some carbon kit car mirrors and thought I'd have a go while the car is off the road.

So, first off obviously I got the spare set and removed the glass - very easy as it just popped out.

Next up I removed all of the screws in the false hope everything would nicely pop apart, which it didn't:

With the motor section removed and the spring revealed I decided to take the easiest route in terms of removing the main housing, a dremel. Leaving me with:

I then used a grinder to remove the cap on the spring and the spring itself leaving me with the base section to mount to the car, and a hollow spindle that I can use to fit the new mirrors:

I need to remember to change the damn picture size on my phone!

Anyhow, I am currently waiting for the mirrors to arrive.

Once they do I'll modify the still attached shaft, obviously it'll be much shorter than it currently is:

Then the top part will need smoothing, blending and tidying up.

Getting there.

are you making any progress on this mate?

Kind of knocked it on the head for the time being mate as I realised what an enormous pile of work I'd created with the rest of the car haha.

Busy getting the rest done but I'm going to come back to these, found all the parts and stuff it's just a case of getting everything together and making it work.
