Ok, I took Friday off to install my 8" subs in a proper box, the same as HERE (http://www.briansbackyard.com/subsystem/), which is the same as JamesArup recently did HERE (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=32551)
Thankfully, my subs\amps\speakers were already installed, so I didn't get the wiring pain in the butt that James did ;) Glad he got it sorted tho :)

Right, so first up I removed the tools on the right of the boot, made my box and placed it in the boot to check it fits.

I then put carpet on this section, fitted the ports and then made the baffle. I then put the box back in and placed the baffle on to check all is ok so far. I also decided to use the spare wheel securing screw to hold the baffle down, so I wanted to check this was lined up ok.

Quick check the subs fit ok, and decide on whether to fit them in the box, or on top.

Ok, I then sealed between the boot floor and the four sides of the box with sealant or expanding foam. Then when dry, I lined the box with wadding to help the subs 'see' a larger enclosure. When I calculated the box size needed for these subs, I came up a bit short so thought the wadding was a good idea.

Then screw down the baffle. I decided to mount the subs upside down so as to see the chrome baskets, so I then cut the carpet and screwed the subs to the baffle.

Put the hatch cover back

And job's a good un

Just gotta hoover it out and let everything dry properly before rigorously testing it out, but I'll report back on what it sounds like !

Now time for a beer and watch Spurs twat WBA - COME ON YOU SPUUUUUURS !!!

Cheers

On a different note, I tried to post this in Ice Gallery, but the [IMG] code doesn't seem to work - anyone else noticed this ?

Looks great! Still some useful room in there for random rubbish - it's not intrusive like a lot of installs.

Nice work - now you've perfected it do you want to do mine? ;)

Cheers Mitch, that's what I was aiming for - I can still get stuff in the boot if need be.

That guide James' post was all I needed, it really isn't too difficult. Just a shame you live so far away (phew ! :p )

If you decide to give it a try, give me a shout and I'll pass on any useful info. I can think of.

that looks good muffleman,
btw, did you seal the bottom of the box to the boot? doesnt seem like you did.
just asking as was thinking, since you put the subs the other way round, wouldnt it be still possible to keep the spare then?

Hi,

I did indeed seal the box to the boot floor, and so no I can't fit in a space saver. I figured...

a) My wheels are 18", so the standard space saver is the wrong size
b) I always replace my tyres long before they are at minimal thread, which is probably why I haven't had a puncture out on the road since 1998 !

So I keep a can of tyre weld\repair for real emergencies, and settle for better audio ;)

All the best

ahhh ok.
fair do, i'm on 17's so guess the spare useful for me.

ps, touch wood on the puncture, my old man put new tyres only a few month ago to one of our cars, and recently we had one and half inch nail in the rear tyre. but if you got tyre weld/repair thing, guess you be ok.

anyway, once again, nice build

That looks really good, nice idea about using the screw hole for the spare to screw it down too!

Does the aerotop still fit in the boot though?

Yup. TBH, I'd prefer a larger sub enclosure, but summer is on the way :eyebrows: and I need to be able to stow the aerotop - which I still can

I am going to do the same but I don't have a big magnet to show off so I will have more boot space to put my girlfriend in it :)
