Tell Insurers about your Respray?

In the process of having a thorough respray done of my pride and joy.

The question has popped into my head as to whether this is something that I need to tell my insurers about?

The car is being resprayed in its existing colours so it's appearance has not changed but could they argue that a car with nice shiny paint is more likely to be nicked than one that has been acting as a toilet target for Glaswegian pigeons for the last 10 years?

What to you guys think?

I would say you don't need to tell them if it's resprayed in exactly the same colour. Put yourself in their position: what would they do with that information? They don't hold information about the quality of the paintwork, so their system wouldn't be able to record the upgrade between tired paint of a certain colour, and fresh paint of the same colour.

But for the time it takes, maybe it's best to just notify them, then you're covered.

There's no harm in telling but the chances are they won't care.

When it comes a claim, they either compare it to book value, or imported classic cars like ours, they compare it to others for sale on the market, at near the same spec. I know this because I had to go through the hassle when my cousin wrote of my old Skyline . They don't care if it has been resprayed or not, but other mods that increase value (engine etc).
