Winter wheels - Using OEM alloys but what size tyre

Hi guys,

Hopefully a quick one, I'm looking to fit some winter tyres before things get properly cold. I have a set of 17" OEM rims but am having a hard time finding tyres that'll fit and be the same all round. Looking at an old thread it would seem that Toyota UK said to fit a 235/45R17 all round. I'm not too sure if that was on the staggered rims, or by using a second pair of the narrower fronts at the rear?

If anyone has a copy of the page in the UK handbook that'd be a great help. Also if anyone has suggestions on a decent set of tyres for typical UK I'd really appreciate it.

Ian

I've got Eagle F1 Asymm 2's on a set of 18's at the moment which don't seem to mind rain etc above about 12c. It's really noticeable how much grip drops off when it's cold and wet out though, looking for something that'll see me through to mid march with little trouble.

Full on winter tyres are overkill in most of the UK imo.

A subject that divides all car enthusiasts, I'm in the winter tyre user group! I put them on my Kia daily driver and my Smart Roadster from mid November till mid/end March. They are excellent in the wet too. I've never put them on the Supra as I don't want it out on salty winter roads tbh.

Avon Ice Touring. Dunlop Wintersport and Goodyear Ultragrip 8's are my recommendations if you are on a budget (like me!)

Personally I'd drop 10mm from the widths front and rear, running 225 front and 245 rear (235 would be too much of a stretch IMO). Additionally, I would run proper winter tyres if they're just for the winter months. They make an incredible difference. You would be running rings round people in 4x4s with proper tyres in the snow.

You'll only need one set, they'll last you forever :)
