can't decide? Na 5/TT auto

Wooo membership sorted and paid

So almost ready to sort myself my first supra. 22yo 1 years Ncb.

I have been frantically saving for my first supra and I'm not sure on what to do.

Looking to spend about £4500 seen a few na 5 speeds within that and also a couple of TT autos too

Currently returning quotes for £1600 for a na manual on compare the market (not checked with any specialists as of yet)

What would I be best off looking for insurance wise yet with a good basis for future tuning?

Sky insurance are quite good, but I expect you're going to pay loads due to your age, my friend! Good luck though!

get the tt as you can get a manual setup for £1500 if u want manual or it will be other £2500+ for a TT engine conversoin

Yea heard good things! Will have to give them a call and see what they can offer me. Have £500 off my next elephant insurance policy so might see if I can play that to my benefit. Already expecting to have a hearty whack for insurance for the first year or so but been my dream to get one since I was a nipper so gonna do it

See I was thinking that but how much more would I be looking at insurance wise is what I'm asking myself. Would have to spend a while looking for a nice v160 conversion for sure. You still think It would be best in the long run.

General plan is to buy one as stock as possible (I know that's not easy nowadays haha) drive it like that and whilst using it on the road relatively stock (would look to change lip, wing, wheels and maybe coil overs and full exhaust but that would probably be it) then part hoard for the build I'm after

The NA is a fun car and a good introduction to the supra platform if you haven't driven anything like it before. That said, you will get the bug to have more power at some points, and from a financial perspective starting with a TT will save you money in the long run.

You should try and pop down to one of the supra meets and see if you can get a ride in an N/A and a TT.

Very valid point will have to weigh up insurance on both see what difference there I there. Have had a go in a few different supras but last time was a good while ago so might have to do that!

What's the stock auto box generally good for power wise? Seems to be a fair bit of speculation all over the net ref this?

I'm the same age as you, I'm using Elephant for my insurance. They charged me about 850 on an NA 5spd but it obviously depends on where you live and how many miles you put on the car. The insurance for a TT of any kind was prohibitively expensive for me. Maybe in a few years - it's not like NAs are going to depreciate much at this point.

I haven't found myself wanting to go any faster yet, but if that's your goal the TT auto is probably a better choice. I just wanted a manual because I've always driven manuals and I wanted to stick to what I know. It's still a cool car.

Deffo true, gonna see how much the insurance on a TT would be first if it's op I'll stick to the manual na then save more and then when I'm ready sell that for the TT upgrade

The auto box is great. You can run BPU levels from it (400 ish bhp with 400 ish torque) after that you would want to hybridise it. Forum member on here does it David P I believe or go for the 6speed v160 v160 conversion but this will be around 3-4k and that's for a 2nd hand box.

Think I might have to get one and drive it at bpu for a while, whilst doing that I'm going to save and purchase the parts I want for my build goals and eventually after a long while saving I'll build it all think that's going to be the plan anyhow. Want to end up with a built 3.0 running a pt6870 will be a long project that's for sure

An auto with a good cooler can handle up to 500, if the choice is between an na or a TT, its a no brainer frankly.

From what I gather, some of the tuners are going over 550hp with additional coolers.

The auto box will handle 600bhp, unless you are into hard launches, or mashing the throttle pedal.

Like the sound of that reccomended coolers? Will keep things fun whilst waiting on a 6speed conversion

I've had both, na5 & tt auto, insurance wise there won't be much difference, personally id go for a tt auto, better scope for future upgrades

Also be weary if you are looking at £4k auto TT's then they'll be at the bottom end of the market. If you are buying a car with problems then things can get expensive quickly.

Also make sure the insurance quote is for a mkiv import as some websites think they mk3 or UK specs which reduce the insurance massively.
