Ok, I'm gonna be doing a similar build to James shortly, amps are already in but the subs are loose in boxes so I have nowhere for my aerotop :banghead: and summer is coming :eyebrows: (Optimistic I know, but I don't want to miss the 3 sunny days we get a year :D )

1. If you're building a box for two subs, does the volume for the box have to be twice the volume for a single sub ? I have two 8" Audiobahns with a volumetric requirement of 1.17 cu. feet, so should my box be 2.34 cu. feet ?

2. I'm not quite sure about the correct wiring for dual voice coil subs, the way I've got it wired at the mo is making the amp rather hot :(
Can any one advise ?

3. Ported or sealed ? I usually go for ported, and I think it's gonna be better for the 8" subs to be ported otherwise it's just gonna be too 'bangy', is this right ?

Cheers

1. Do what I did... put the roof in the backseat on modify clips....
2. Depends on how you want to configure the coils.... I'm assuming each coil is 4 ohms...
in which case you could run them in series, then run the two subs in parallel giving your amp a nice 4 ohm load... if you are amp is 2 ohm stable then crack on running them in that configuration, but the amp will get hot..

3. sealed is beater for smoothness of sound, ported gives you more of a kick at a specific freq..

That is just a very quick overview *Grin*

Check out this software to look at the difference with box sizes... and ported and stuff

I used to use HarrisTech software, but it is getting way too expensive for small time use since I'm out the competition circuit now...

Cheers Gav, I did take a look at that software when you mentioned it in James' thread - but having sunk a few beers, it all got a little confusing at the time ! I'll take another look tonight (BEFORE beer ;) )

I have the same issue fella, mine is an aerotop but i intend on keeping the roof mounted in the boot and fibre everything underneath 'swoop' style in a sense .... it can be done and the nice thing is that if you strip and sound proof your roof section it then won't rettle and in a way act as a base for a virtual box over inverted subs ....

ok the idea is there .. lets see if i can pull it of lol

Be interested to see how you get on mate, it'll certainly look cool ! I'm afraid my skills\patience doesn't extend to fibreglass :twak: but love to see how it turns out :)

well thats the thing .. me a fibreglass are not the best of friends so i'm looking for a body/fibre shop to cast my design for me (audio shops want nearly 2 grand to do it!)

In theory it will fit and sound awesome .. you can't really mount large speakers needing loads of air space without inverting them in this boot but then with the aero roof we now have the issue of height for the arse end of the sub ....

all of this just to have a 1ohmn system

though it will all depend on what my Audiobahn Eternal Awe512p's need ... then of course there is the 18 to sink under them .... will be an interesting project lol
