Beginning of the money pit

Just wondering guys what sort of money I'll be looking at to convert my 1996 manual TT to a large single? Looking for around 650-700bhp, this will more than likely be happening after October when the car will be getting taken off the road to avoid the lovely salty roads. But the procurement of parts may begin very soon. Any help would be appreciated :) thought it best asking you guys who have probably been there and done it.

It all depends on your budget and how you source parts.

There are reliable second hand parts and kits for sale. But it all depends on if you want it done straight away or can you wait it out for the parts you want.

Also you planning to pay someone to do it? Because thats where it probably cost you the most.

here's a general idea:

Turbo

Manifold

Wastegate

Injectors

Fuel pressure regulator

ECU

Downpipe

Fuel pump

turbo blanket

Catch can

Air filter

custom intercooler pipes if needed

Those are the main things but other things you need will pop up when you start on it.

My budget goes as far as it needs to go for it to be done right:rolleyes: yeah I would do some of the things myself I.e clutch, injectors, fuel pump, I'd remove the original turbos and manifold and trailer it to wherever I took it to so they can do the complicated bits :)

A good full single conversion is around 20k, If you want extreme/best your looking at 50k+ a good example is Kaan nice supra.

I'd say £20k is a bit steep. I'm considering going single next year and reckon I can get it done for just over £10k. But that is with me fitting the kit myself and not including unexpected extras.

I could probably fit the single kit myself and all the other bits and pieces that are needed if it not overly complicated, it would then just get put on a trailer to a specialist to get it mapped properly. So as an average you guys reckon it'll be £15K? A new borg warner s300 turbo kit with the manifold and downpipe is around £5K and I've already got the full exhaust system for it.

Like I said you are half way there already with the parts so I don't see why you can't do the build for around 10k, plus you are doing the build yourself.

Also think about your camshafts, because if you do finish your build and its running at xxxbhp if you decide to change camshafts on a later date.

The mapper has to start from the beginning again.

I'd go with the SRD kit with a gen 1 journal 6266 turbo which I think is priced around £4200 (don't quote me), a used syvecs, ANSU injectors etc.

The rest depends on the current spec of your car in regards to what fuel pump, brakes exhaust, boost controller, intercooler, suspension, clutch your running.

Best thing to do is price up your ideal spec and then discuss with the traders on here what they will charge for labour and mapping etc.

It currently has a 255lph walbro, 3.5inch greddy trust titanium exhaust, has a blitz idc-III boost controller, uprated fmic unsure currently of what spec it is, fully adjustable hsd coilovers, uprated uk brakes, unsure of the clutch atm also but that would definitely be getting replaced going to that power level :)

What cams would you recommend?

264/264 cams seem popular.

Yeah 264 or 262. Unless you are going 1000+bhp I don't think you need it any bigger than the two recommended.

Buy it from anyone reputable and you be fine. Also maybe worth looking around to see who be mapping your car.

I think Chris Wilson is the closest tuner to you, might be worth having a word with him.
