Mangled my alloy

Hi all,

 

Horrendously mangled my alloy after returning from holiday yesterday and going for a little spin. I was going around a round about and the exit was closed off so me not paying attention for 1 second whilst I read the diversion sign made my donk my rear wheel on the curb and its absolutely battered it! Really gutted.

Got a couple of questions -

 

1. Is this repairable? Where the initial impact happened (8oclock position) it appears to have bent the lip

2. Is the car still drivable with an alloy like that? I took it straight home and it didn't feel any different but wanted to be sure. I'd rather drive it to the alloy repair place if poss.

Message Ibrar on here. From personal experience, if it needs Welding then I would just get a new wheel.

 

He said its repairable, thats a good sign then! I guess it doesn't need welding

 

You should be able to order a new lip/barrel for it they are 3piece wheels arent they, id have thought volk would still sell these?

 

I've really got no idea, they came on the car and never had alloys like this before? Not even sure how i'd go about doing something like that?

It's a ding and a bit of kerb rash, heartbreaker but just cosmetic damage...not the end of the world and a relatively easy fix for a specialist.

 

That's good to know, have so many things to pay for atm a new wheel would have been killer. Does that mean its still drivable to drive to a shop?

 

They are 2 piece, I have the same wheels. Ibrar can sort that out for you, give him a PM mate.

 

I would go to his shop for sure but he's too far away from me, about 4 hrs!

There's every chance it could be ok if it's a short trip and you take it easy, personally I wouldn't bud, if it blew out and you lost control it'd be a much bigger bill :) I'd swap it off for the spare if it's just for a couple of short trips, if it's going to take any longer I'd be trying to borrow a wheel and tyre off a mate.

If it's cast I would want it crack testing before and after repair. I doubt the rims are spun or forged, but if they are, that would give me a lot more confidence in having one repaired.

 

If you can buy a new one I would do so. Hard to see from the photo if they are genuine 3 piece or fake. The purchase price would be a guide if you are nervous about trying to take a "bolt" out which may just be cosmetic fakery.
