Some of you might know I have been doing my single build but I thought I'd make it official :D

I have been gathering parts since middle of last year and finally started on the build on 17th May.

I've been waiting to go single for a long time now and after speaking to Mk4Gaz, I knew that's what I wanted to do. So all I needed was that little push otherwise I still be with my stock twin setup.

I have almost finished the build and just need a few more custom work and the car will be ready for remapping.

I am not really sure about my power goals but I would be happy at around 600-650BHP.

This is before the single conversion

Taking the upper part of the turbos seem quick and easy but didn't expect that removing the turbo was so hard.

Was told by a few members its not a quick and easy job to remove the stock twins and they are right!

It took a good part of 3 hours with cut hands to remove the stock twins. The manifold nuts were a mission to get too.

Once it was out, we then mocked up the manifold and turbo. At this point its almost end off day 1.

Just a note for members in the future when you buy Greddy/HKS or any tubular you need to alter the manifold studs and change the nuts to a slimline otherwise it wont bolt back on using stock.

The engine bay is starting to take shape, but due to the age of the Supra, the engine bay looks very unloved. So while waiting for parts I started to tidy the bay and sprayed it back to 040 Toyota white, made a huge differences.

Once the turbo was mounted and bolted down, we moved our attention to the inlet manifold side. This was pretty straight forward, just followed this guide and you be a expert in no time :D

Removed the fuel damper and replaced it with Hodge's fuel damper bypass.

Here's the mock up of the inlet manifold in place

The fuel system is all in place now. It's a little messy but I guess I can always tidy the hoses once the car starts.

Again the build has been halted due to parts so I tried and clear out the other side of the engine bay and even painted it too.

While I was waiting for parts, I went back and plumb the waste gate into my boost solenoid. Needed help so first place I turn to was the forum :D link to plumb in the external wastegate .

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?323016-Greddy-wastegate-vacuum-setup

List of things to do

Battery relocation

Power steering bottle relocation

Coolant bottle relocation

Fusebox relocation

Fuel pump

Intercooler pipes

Modify intake pipe

Install throttle cable

Install Q45 and TSP

Adjust the TSP

Okay not the most recent picture but when this picture was taken some of the list above have been done and it looks like its complete but far from it.

Going single is not a weekend thing. lol

attachment.php?attachmentid=202410&stc=1&d=1434583291

With the throttlebody in place I could focus on getting the intercooler section ready.

At this point I really want to thank johnd-mkvi for the knowledge he has and the custom fabrications. Without him I don't think I would of gotten so far, and through out this build I was almost planning to give up.

Was told to "slowly chip away the build, you get there"

  • 3 months later...
  • 5 years later...

Between the time I originally finish the first part of the build it looked like this 2015 - 2019

During that time I had carried out most of the build on the drive way

My loom tuck was fine but I still wasn't happy  with the look of the bay.

My spec list has changed over the years aswell so I will update it on a later post with more recent pictures

But the big changes were this year 2020, where engine came back out with subframes rebuilt, underseal and engine refresh.

In 2020 I no longer carried out the work but instead gave it to Darren at Magnum Performance.

I gave him a list of things to carry out but replace anything that needed doing and that was costly 😂 but at the end of it I know everything was new and shouldn't worry about it in the future.

The subframes were sandblasted and i decided to go with gunmetal rather than stock colours again
