Firstly, I would like to say 'Hi' to all of the other Supra Owners out there. It's great to have a site like this where people can log on and discuss everything Supra.

My first question is a simple one.

I live in Somerset and have only owned my 1993 Supra SZ J-Spec for 5 months. I am what you call a bit of a late starter when it comes to being a car enthusiast. I am not a mechanic, but would love to MOD my car. The things is, I don't know if I need to locate a specialist for this kind of thing or whether a good car mechanic could make any modifications that I wanted. If a specialist is required, does anyone know anywhere down here in the West Country where I could have the work done.

Hello and welcome

I would guess that the question of whether you will need a specialist will depend on what mods you are thinking of doing. If it is a decat and a new exhaust, then that would be OK given to an exhaust fixing establishment. If it is of a more techy nature, then you may want to source a more experienced set up.

Unfortunately, i cannot reccomend anyone from your area as i dont live close by. In saying that, i am sure someone will be along shortly that will know someone close.

Hello and Welcome, and WL is right, he's MAD! :alien:

Basic mod's can be done by any competent mechanic, but more in depth ones should be done by a specialist. See the traders section or I'm sure others will post who know where your nearest one is.

I've only had mine 6-7 months and it was stock when I got it  Hmmm no wonder I'm skint now :eyebrows:

I've always found that the best way to carry out mods is to use places like this BBS to decide exactly what you want done and ask questions etc, then go to a competant mechanic with your specific requirements, this way you aren't relying on someone who doesn't know soops to tell you what you need :)

Hello mate!

As Faye said, what mods are you planning. Short of spending serious money I can't think of any mods you caould do to a NA that would really need a specialist.

They aren't very 'moddable' without spending big money. Generally its cheaper (and easier) to go and buy a TT. :innocent:

Hi Mate & welcome - where in Somerset?

I'm in Bath and asked the same question a while ago, but there doesn't seem to be any Supra 'specialists' near by. Chris Wilson may be the nearest (Shropshire).

I've gone to Bath Performance Cars a few times. Gary there is very helpful and is OK with being given a list of what you want doing (I've even supplied parts to be fitted)

I've seen Beemers, Porsches etc there and one of the guys who works there has a heavily modded Calibra Turbo, where they've done all the engine internals work, nitrous etc and reckon its 450bhp or something. Could be worth a go - hope this helps. :)

Cheers for the help.

In answer to some of the questions asks.

My first MOD will be to slap a delimiter on the car and get the speedo converted. After that, probably new alloys and a respray. Don't get me wrong, I like my Supra Black but it could do with a bit of a facelift. Beyond that who know's. The car has already got an upgraded Exhaust and Air Filter fitted. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

As to where I live. The village of Street near Glastonbury.

Hi....

Were not to far away at Warminster.

When we bought ours (Soo n me) it was from a jap place in Bristol.

They use a specialist company near Bristol (may be Weston ish) who de-limit cars, change speedo's, fog lights and underseal etc.

If you're interested, I'll find the details for you.

We took our to Chris Wilson for de-cat, fcd, etc, he's along way but seems to know what he's doing and has a very good name on here.

There is a place in Wincanton who specilise in jap cars (workshop) but it seems mainly Evo's & stuff although they do advertise for Supes etc.

Again, can dig the name out if you want it.

Hope to meet you sometime (local meet ??) & for convoys to Pod etc.

------------

Hi Jay, not to far away are u... do you go to the Bath Uni ?

I've seen a black Supe there a few times (including tonight) sounds very nice!

Cheers

Gerry

Hi Mate, (I'm assuming this is to me). I DID go to Bath Uni a fair few years ago now, and decided to stay on in Bath. I have to work for a living now, but in the immortal words of Ian C:

"I love my job. It pays for my Supra."

My Supra is metallic green if you see me around Bath. You in Bath often?

Welcome to the BBS mate....I am often in Somerset...infact I may of seen you in McDonalds in Street once if ya the same person I parked next to ya...but you were busy eating. I remember seeing a black one in there with a aftermarket exhaust it was a few months ago....maybe we should have a Somerset meet soon...would be cool.

Welcome.

P.S. Chris Wilson is worth the journey..never heard any horror stories about him...then theres Slow Dogg (Paul) who is in Basingstoke...he is very good for most jobs....took me a long time to find someone i could trust. Paul knows his stuff.
