I found a good info page on using the stock tweeter location instead of cutting a hole in your kick panel or door to fit your new compnents.

Its pretty simpole really but be carefull !

Good info that and I wouldn't imagine people would be too bothered about damaging the old stock ones either.

Trouble for me is I've already mounted mine at the lower edge of the A pillar so it's a bit late now :twak:

oh well :D

I'll have a look at that - I'll need to make use of it, excellent!

How did you mount your new speakers in the front door?

How did you mount your new speakers in the front door?

As most others on here with a set of 6,5" speakers in the doors i would guess :)

Heres a VERY bad pic of the mids in the door :) Its screwed onto a ring of MDF that in turn is screwed onto the metal of the door itself :)

(ill post better ones of the whole setup when i get around to it :))

In other words....in profile...(outside to inside)

Speaker "grille"
Speaker
Doorcard
MDF ring
The "bare metal"

Hope that helps :)

I'm still having trouble with my ring (ooh err), can't get the 'board' to sit on the metalwork properly like the plastic stock thingy does, gonna have to have loads of additional blocks and rings and stuff to 'pad it out' enough to be screwed in!

I'm having trouble with my ring too, getting to the stage where I'm dabbing instead of wiping............. :conf:

I'll get my coat!

I just used the ring...not a whole floorboard :) And....used some kind of sounddampening (cant remember the type) mat to finish it off :)

Yeah heard some people just screw a ring into the metal, then screw the speaker onto that.

Can't see that that would be very rigid though TBH, and you'd still get the problem with the mismatch of the front of the speaker to the door card - it needs to be lifted forward at the top a bit to match.

Just pry out the rest of the tweeter...without the magnet...shouldnt be to hard...it should now part with the magnet...and the magnet is in turn attached to a screw thats fastened from underneath the dash...but no worries...just get some leverage underneath the magnet...to hold the screw in place...and start unscrewing the magnet...and voila...it comes off ;-)

I tried this a couple of years ago, but was a bit unlucky, nomatter what i tried i couldnt get the tweeter magnet out as the screw behind kept spinning, and man it aint easy to get at!. Shortly after I got a crack in my window so when the guys were replacing it I used a high speed air powered drill to go down through the middle of it. I was glad to see it out. Hope yours goes straightforward, as the standard tweeter sounds like breaking glass!. Its well worth while!
