parasight Posted March 29, 2015 Share Posted March 29, 2015 Hello, As the inside of my engine bay is skanky place with all forms of muck, possibly all the way from Japan, I thought I'd spend the weekend cleaning it up. I'm arming myself with Swarfega or Jizer (not decided yet) degreaser, a pressure washer, nylon brushes, and elbow grease. Other than covering the alternator, battery terminals, and spark plugs + leads, is there anything else I need to cover up? Or is this just a completely bad idea to begin with, and should I go to a professional instead? I have a 5 speed NA, with the dizzy and all that. Stonkin Posted March 30, 2015 Share Posted March 30, 2015 As you have said, just cover up any main electrical components, I would use a pressure washer but to be honest you don't even really need it turned on. Just a fine mist is fine and use it to rinse areas once you have cleaned them. Make sure not to get water around the plug wells. Just use common sense and take your time. rider Posted March 30, 2015 Share Posted March 30, 2015 I've steam pressure washed a hot engine bay with absolutely no issues. Just made sure its dried before starting up again, which is where a warm engine helps. Used degreaser and alloy wheel cleaner on the alloy bits.
