Was chatting with a representative of Toyo at the Autosport show about the R888R that they had on display.

They have had to redesign the Tyre due to legislation change for road use as the old design does not comply now.

I also remember him saying there will be two compounds as well, a GG and SG, one for road use (GG) and one which will not be dot marked for pure track use (SG), although since then I have not heard much more about the SG compound apart that they may make the smaller sizes road legal, will have to see.

So if you have the R888 already on your car it doesn't comply with the regs now?

Looks like the GG compound is available in my sizes, will have to check availability as I dont have much left on my current tyres :(

Reading the link above the SG compound is for smaller lighter setups like Caterhams and Westfields :)

The second compound, the R888R SG is only road approved in certain sizes, and is designed for higher grip on lighter cars such as Caterhams and Westfields.
