TT Auto Gearbox cost?

As above. Any ideas? The car was fine this afternoon now it won't engage any gears at all.

That didnt take long to kill the stock auto!

They can be picked up for £150-200.

Yes mate it would stop working do the proper method to check the oil level it may need a top up... Hopefully it's that simple.

If it's not cherry red and it is brown and smells burned it's probably dead

That is a possibility, did it fill like it was slipping at all? Check the ATF is a nice cherry red colour and not burnt.

Could be the torque converter, dads used to do that before we killed the stock auto. First thing Id do is check the gearbox oil level and make sure its a cherry red colour.

It would need to be leaking for the fluid to get low really, more like the ATF hasn't been changed

and possibly too late if its lost drive.

Check it on the dipstick to see what it looks like first, the next step is drop the sump and see how

blocked up the filter is

Thought you sold the car

New owner needs to free up space for it and get his 635i sold. It's still in my possession but need to sort the box now before it goes away.

Low fluid/blocked filter would cause a loss of drive for sure.

When you put it into D or other there is a Rev blip but the box doesn't engage. I'll investigate further in the morning hopefully it's just low fluid. Thanks for the input Gents.

If you put another box in it drain out all the fluid and have a close look at it, empty it into

a clean container.

If its not contaminated with material from the box take the sump off and change the filter

and fill with new ATF.

If it's dirty i wouldn't fit it personally. No matter what the miles said on the odo the car

it came out of.

ATF is a fluid that tends to get overlooked as far as servicing goes, same as brake fluid

Fluid is a cherry red. Plenty on the dipstick at the moment. I'll start it and warm it up go through all gears and see if that makes a difference to the level.

Fluids fine in the box. It's warmed up and it's staying at the top level of the dipstick. Must be the box itself that's shat. Or torque converter.

Yeah looks like it's the box or the converter bud. I'll try get a hold of both asap. The box has done some serious miles so I'm not surprised. I'll get it sorted for the new owner anyway.

Your best bet is to get a working box and torque converter from the same car mate just in case there's debris in the converter itself that could damage the new box.

Is a 1JZ GTE box comparable? Wondered if it's the same box?
