If the fluid gets low would it stop selecting?

 

Yes mate it would stop working do the proper method to check the oil level it may need a top up... Hopefully it's that simple.

 

If it's not cherry red and it is brown and smells burned it's probably dead

It would need to be leaking for the fluid to get low really, more like the ATF hasn't been changed

and possibly too late if its lost drive.

 

Check it on the dipstick to see what it looks like first, the next step is drop the sump and see how

blocked up the filter is

If you put another box in it drain out all the fluid and have a close look at it, empty it into

a clean container.

 

If its not contaminated with material from the box take the sump off and change the filter

and fill with new ATF.

 

If it's dirty i wouldn't fit it personally. No matter what the miles said on the odo the car

it came out of.

 

ATF is a fluid that tends to get overlooked as far as servicing goes, same as brake fluid
