JackyBoi
Hi guys. I've recently discovered that my Supra is burning oil but I don't for the life of me know why. It only has 52k miles on the clock and hasn't had the engine modified at all. I had it fully serviced with no hiccups, and then changed the cam cover seal, but still burning oil. I noticed it when I checked the dipstick a week back and it was down a quarter, so I filled it back up with 5w30 fully synthetic and one week later its almost burnt a whole quarter again. I don't drive the Supra that hard or that frequently, could it be to do with how cold it is now? Or knackered turbos? I really need some help on this one guys! ripped_fear
You sure its burning oil and not leaking somewhere? that seems allot of oil in a short space of time.
Nic
Are you getting blue smoke from the exhaust? Blue smoke at start up is a sign of valve stem seal wear; when the car is stood oil gets past the valve seals into the combustion chamber and is then burnt off when you start up. Blue smoke from the exhaust when boosting or coming off the throttle on over run is a sign of turbo wear. If you're not getting blue smoke from the exhaust then I'd get the car on a lift and check for leaks underneath.
Swampy442
Are you sure its not 252k miles? Lol. How far had you driven between filling the oil and checking the dip stick?
JamieP
It's got to be leaking, I'd get it on a ramp, get the undertray off and have a look about. I'm betting cam cover gaskets or FMS.
listy
If the rear crank seal is leaking, the oil may be staying in the bell housing. That happened to me, and when Paul at Whifbitz took the box off, it dumped the oil everywhere. I couldn't locate a leak either.
Havard
I would have a good look at the undertray and get it on a ramp. Rocker cover and FMS would surely show some evidence of a leak.
