Supra prices

Hi lads im new to the supras and trying to find out a reasonable cost for a supra. Im looking for a non VVTI, TT with roughly 60k miles on it. I was wondering what is the cost of a 5 speed and 6 speed versions? Im guessing with a BPU package on it you're looking at 1k more than bone stock? I understand they all differ from oem to body kits but is there any rough guide price?

The TT was never available as a 5 speed. Any 5 speeds are conversions (usually NAs with the 2JZ-GTE dropped in)

I would personally avoid these, as it limits any future tuning. Go straight for a 6 speed. BPU cars won't be any more expensive than stock. Actually, a clean, stock example will be a bit more expensive. A pre vvti 6 speed TT will cost you circa £10k at the moment, but they are in very short supply these days.

Don't automatically dismiss the auto, they are great cars, and usefully cheaper than the manual. Plus, kickdown in a BPU auto is VERY special

For me though having an auto just isnt like you are driving the car? I like to be completely involved in it if that makes sense? Auto is too easy haha

VVTi are more expensive, normally £11k plus. In Japan, there are regularly 6 speed VVTis in excess of £25k!!!

There is also the tiptronic model, which is a VVTi TT auto, which had gear shift controls on the steering wheel. I am picking one up on Friday

Also, the getrag 6 speed gearbox isn't for everyone. The gearchange is heavy, and on some boxes it is very notchy. The term 'agricultural' was used to describe them by the motoring press back in the day.

You've got more chance if you buy a VVTi TT6 away from the forum for £9k. Cars on the forum go for more of a premium. However, with that you know the history of the car and how its been kept/maintained.

As above, ALWAYS buy on condition. I've seen a 200k mile UK Supra that would put most low mileage Supras to shame.

Yeh i appreciate that and thats what im after. In my opinion its worth spending that little bit more for that history and sort of safety factor. I was just wondering what the rough prices are at the moment around this forum and import.

That's not true, mine has less than 40k on the clock. So they are out there.

True regarding documentation & mileage, my previous Supra had nearly 100k & still felt tight.

Jurgen at Jm Imports is a trader on here and if you look to go the import route he's the man to speak with.

Well yeah i have contacted him but just wondering if i can find the same sort of spec of car with BPU for the same price as an import. Im in no rush to buy but just want to know the prices so i buy smart I will either buy on this forum or from jurgen.

No. You'll be looking at £11k plus for a VVTi TT6, more like £13k - £15k for a fresh import. A pre VVTi car will be circa £10k, or more for a fresh import.

The problem you will have is that these manual cars is that demand outstrips supply, so buyers have no reason to drop their prices if they own a decent example.

You could always consider a UK twin turbo, they have tidy upgrades and usually a full service history which won't be in Japanese! I'm sure I saw a few on piston heads and gumtree

Very rare cars though, especially a good quality, low mileage manual. As said always go for condition, worth paying a premium for a well looked after example with a lot of paperwork, a tired 20 year old Supra on the original suspension is going to cost a lot to bring up to a good roadworthy standard.

Definitely consider the Auto's or Triptronic's as the guys have mentioned, even more so if budget is restrictive.

I have had both Auto and 6 speed and if I had no Supra now and had to buy another, I would genuinely find it very difficult to decide which to go for (and probably end up trying a triptronic ) they all have there pro's and cons and I find it difficult to decide which I genuinely prefer between Auto and Manual!

Ultimately depends what you want to use the car for? commuting/track days/weekend car etc?

Where are you located? if you haven't already it would be worth getting out for a drive (passenger or driver if you can) in a couple!

As J mentioned.....the kick down is very special on the Auto!

So I'm guessing that's about right? I know he has to make his money on it and that he's very respectable but obviously anywhere I can save money is better!

Well, if it's going to be used for commuting, I would always recommend an auto over a manual, it will be much better.

And It is worth spending a premium on a fresh import. Most cars here will have some rust setting in, where a fresh import shouldn't. When I pick my car up on Friday, I'm booking it straight in with a specialist for a full Bilt Hamber cavity wax and underseal. A bit of money spent here will potentially save me a fortune in the long run. So no, it's not always a good idea to try and save money with the initial purchase.

Probably £500 plus. But as I will be using this car all year round, it is a no brainer. It is worth getting a specialist to do it too, most garages just slop a bit of underseal on cars with no knowledge of its proper application and maintenance. But the waxing is probably the most important aspect. The common rust areas on the Supra should be preventable if treated properly.
