HKS twins - just thinking out loud

Just thinking about possible future mods to the supra to gain more power (currently running standard setup just bpu and minor mods) and was wondering a rough estimate on how much it would cost for a HKS twin turbo setup like the one below?

It wouldn't happen for a little while yet but just wondering if it would be a possibility in my future plans :)

Pm "theturtleshead" he's thinking of selling his set. He may even be able to fit it for you.

Thanks mate just looked at the thread and looks like a great set up but will be abit in the future I need to get the funds 1st, just wanting a ball park figure so I know how much I need :)

I'll have a chat with you about it when you pick your car up next week Shaun....

Thanks paul :)

I wouldn't, it's not a good setup IMHO, most on here that will say they are good but have never driven one, they are laggy as hell, you make next to no boost in first gear, far better setups out there.

Ahh right I have never driven one with this setup but was assuming that although it wouldn't be as powerful it would be less laggy than the single turbo route, are the turbo's the same size then or is it still one bigger than the other just like a bigger version of the original setup?

5k for the kit, 2-3k for the ecu, 3k for the 6speed box and diff, and then labour to fit it all.

Thanks that was what I was after :) the ECU is more expensive than I was expecting, was thinking that would be only just over the grand mark but hadn't looked into it as didn't know which one is most suited for this setup

Just go small single, the most fun I've ever had in a supra is when I ran a T67DBB on a stock block. These cars are a bit of an addiction you keep going, going, going till you have so much power it's ridiculous, but you then cant simply jump in and thrash about.

Small single turbo, stock block, fun forever! :)

I think the turbo kit is also much more expensive than that. The T04Z kit is well over £5k now, so I reckon it'll be nearer £7k for a twin kit. A Syvecs will cost well over £2k fitted and mapped.

The minor gains associated with some twin kits just isn't worth the added expense and complication IMO, a high quality single kit is the way to go. :)

i sold the same kit a few mths back... nice bit of kit to have but not great to drive compared to a lot of newer single turbo kits which spool up a lot quicker... we sold a used kit for £2500.

Also your 5 speed box wouldnt last long with much more than what you have now...... you would need to go 6 speed tbh.

The S362 Bw single i had was far more responsive and much better to drive than the HKS twins "around streets" on the motorway the big twins were savage! cant disagree with the "laggy" comments as they are so definately a nice stroked engine and lairy cams would be on the cards if anyone is planning a twin build. Also working on twins is a drama no matter what you do! slightest of exhaust blows meant engine out job :( pita

Big twins looks knockout! and being involved in shows i always had the upper hand when the bonnet was lifted. no one cares if you got a big turbo! people want to see 2 of them! simple as that.

my advise would be get a decent single turbo street setup! keep things basic... much more fun and slightly better on the wallet, members over complicate the builds they do.

I'm currently away to undertake the big HKS twins build, but im also adding a 3.4 stroker kit to help with the lag side of things. I've always preffered the look of big twins over a big single, but its just personal prefference really. IF you have a look at some build threads, it might help you out.

Yeah I can see the advantages and disadvanges with both, it's still only future plans as v160 gearbox is the next item on my list so will look think abit more into the turbo setup options, thanks for all your advice though it's nice to get the feedback off people who have had this setup and know about it
