Can somebody explain the difference between the below and advantages if any for a road car, price versus benefit

thanks ;)

My taughts are one of these and a HKS turbo kit ot a to4z kit or a t51kai kit

My goal is a reliable street setup with quick spool, a setup I can use in the real world on the street. I am not into chasing hp figures

It's the 14020-AT002 HKS setup kit (the HKS T04Z kit minus the turbo) you want as this uses a T4 exhaust manifold, the HKS T51 kit uses a V-band turbo flange which I don't think is available for a turbo of this size.

I'd personally go with a standard Garrett turbo from a registered Garrett dealer.

I am just working out pricing on HKS + 35rgtx versus HKS T04z , I think you had the older 35r unit Nic but depending on price difference is there anything between the T04z kit and a 35rgtx?

HKS did a good job back then but what I am asking do the latest turbo's or even kits improve on it

From what I gather in the last 10-15 years turbo technologies are engineered towards responsiveness in the larger turbos (T78, T88), if you wanted over 600 hp you would benefit from the newer turbo technology with regards a reducing in lag. The Lowered powered units I am not too sure they benefit from the new technology , what I am trying to say is the benefit if any is not measurable to make a noticeable difference.

Just my grasp on things

Even the difference between the GT35R and the GTX35R are noticeable, so there should be a marked difference between a GTX35R and something like a T04Z.

The GTX30R may also be a suitable choice for your needs, though I have heard that people have been having surge issues with them on 2JZs.

The HKS turbos are made by Garrett, there are apparently some differences in the spec of the HKS T04Z and Garrett T04Z but the HKS turbo is a lot more expensive ie. it works out a lot cheaper to use the HKS setup kit and standard Garrett turbo. I used a Garrett GT3582R DBB turbo, they spool up very quickly and will make around 550hp at 1.4bar, the GTX35R is suppose to flow 10% more than the GT35R but with similar spool up, so the GTX35R should make similar power to the larger T04Z but be more responsive.

If you are wanting a fast spooling 600hp Supra the Garrett GTX3582R would be my choice.

So Prices from OD

We will be looking at the GT35 range turbos and for the best response the next generation Billet wheels, either Garrett’s GTX or our equivalent HTA. T4 single scroll v-band external waste gate turbine housing is fine. We recommend the 1.06A/R turbine housing size.

803715-5001S GTX3582R turbo with Garrett’s GTX billet wheel, ported compressor cover and turbine housing £1268.66+VAT

803715-5001S GTX3582R turbo with Garrett’s GTX billet wheel, ported compressor cover and turbine housing Including Metal Cages, Heat Shield, Conical Nut £1544.66+VAT

GT3586HTA Garrett Housing T3/4bolt, T3/v-band or T4/v-band 86HTA Ported Anti-surge Shroud GT35 External £1,260.66+VAT

GT3586HTA Garrett Housing T3/4bolt, T3/v-band or T4/v-band 86HTA Ported Anti-surge Shroud GT35 External Metal Cages, Heat Shield, Conical Nut £1,582.05+VAT

I've no experience with OD, but as a matter of course I'd look into their warranty and aftermarket service record, there's a bit on the subject here http://www.owendevelopments.co.uk/46/Turbo_Failure/

Can you still buy a new HKS setup kit Nic?

Yes they are still available to buy new.

There is no warranty on any turbo fitted to enhance performance, it's in their terms and conditions. I know as I have just bought some GT series units from them. Most companies follow similar lines. Consider them throw away items!

They can put it in terms all they want you get an implied 1 year warranty by Statute the term in the contract is void.

I hate hate hate car part companies and this no warranty B******* they dont want to offer parts with warranty thats fine go sell outside the UK.

They get away with it by blaming turbo failures on other things, such as the oil, mapping or installation. The companies who specialise in rebuilding turbos are the worst for this, I've never heard of sanyone getting a successful warranty claim with a rebuilt turbo.

I think Lee (SRD) still has a used HKS T51 KAI setup for sale, if you want a fast spool setup that won't be ideal though. he sells all the HKS stuff, he had a brand new T04Z kit in the other day, looks stunning.

I doubt there is much between any of the turbos you have listed further down, if you want the best spool time I'd go fully divided setup and I'm a big precision fan, other manufacturers just don't seem to compare for turbo size power and spool time IMHO.

I've been sat in the distance with Supra's and builds these last 6 months or so and have realised more and more that a strong un-opened engine is a better option than rebuilding it when looking at the turbo size you are considering.

I have been prepping my spec for when I return to ownership and I will be running the HKS T04Z turbo kit (zircotec coatings) with most likely the Precision GEN2 6266, but I've always been a fan of the GTX3582R as a great street turbo.

Hi Nic..

The HKS site lists the P/N for the turboless kit as 11003-AT001ZZ.

Your P/N is different. Which is correct?

Yahoo Auction Japan sells the kit under the P/N I quoted..

Can you clarify?
