9.5" Wheels on front and rear

One of my friends has just taken delivery of a Supra, and I'm a bit baffled by the wheel and tyre combination on the car.

It has 9.5" wheels all round, with 235/40/18 tyres on the front, and 245/40/18 on the rear.

In my experience, every Supra I have been involved with has had staggered wheels, and on 18s they've been along the lines of 235 or 245 / 40 / 18 on the front, and 275 or 285 / 40 / 18 on the rear.

As he needs to buy new tyres anyway, he is considering buying new wheels at the same time if it is a better setup for the car. But is the current setup okay, and I assume that he would be okay going up to something like 265 on a 9.5" Wheel on a Supra? I don't know the offset of the wheels, but they are pushed out quite far.

Cheers. :)
