i oftern wonder "what makes a car" there is a guy i know who has a 9 litre drag monster, it has a sierra bodyshell but that is about it! i don't consider it a sierra.

so.. surely if your already talking about an engine swap. the answer i would say is no a supra couldn't... a built car with a supra body shell maybe could.

I see what you are saying but on the flip side, I still think of RedVictor3 as a Vauhall Victor even though it has a 9.6 twin turbo big block and makes 3000bhp.

But it's the Supra body shell shape and Aero the I'm more curious about.

Would you class E.Kanoo's 6 second drag car as a Supra? It can do 0-230mph over a quarter mile so I guess it could be achieved over a longer distance with a similar sort of car/spec.

Most expensive 'Supra' around with millions invested though :D

I think the question here is not can a Supra do it but more does a tyre manufacturer make a tyre that could withstand that speed, in simple NO.

Back in 2001, this Supra managed 249MPH running 1200bhp.

I'd say it is possible with the right sort of gearing & setup.

The trouble is that after 200 the increase in HP vs MPH is like a cliff.

Lets put it this way.... a BPU Supra could manage around 190mph. In order to do this it would need the runway from Fast & Furious 6.

In order to hit 190 in a safe manner, ie quickly, you would need around 600hp.

It's one thing having the physical power to reach a speed, it's reaching it and getting back down to normal speeds in a safe distance/time. As has already been mentioned, tyres are a huge factor and there will be massive limitations on the time that they can handle 200+mph.

I know I made it sound quite simple but totally understand the complexity of achieving something like this. The biggest like you say being the tyres and something road legal.

The salt flats would be the only place I could think of this could be tested.

Size wise it would be ideal but I believe it can get a bit slippery. The car would need a lot of aero work regardless, but probably even more so if the salt flats was the plan.

I must find a longer "runway" to do an extra 15mph... :D

To be fair, hitting 160-165 isn't difficult in a strong BPU TT. I've touched an "indicated" 175 before I gayed out and in not such a short distance.

Like Abz says, geared right it should be possible.

I believe you would need around 430hp (UK horses) and a 6spd box :)

Salt flats suck a tonne of power out. Vehicles that should easily and do easily get to three figure speeds struggle to crack a ton on that surface. You'd need the test track that they run stuff like the Veyron up to top speed on to verify that speed. Mechanical gearing would I suspect be the hardest part to deal with as any engine producing the oomph to get a vehicle to 300 mph will be aspirated such that low rev power is difficult. I guess what I am saying is that any of the current drag or stock boxes currently going in to supra's would not manage this speed.

Clearly there is a 300 mph club at the flats so they must manage it somehow.
