Right diagnostic tool

Hi all.

I'm looking for a diagnostic tool for my N/A. Tried borrowing a few but non fit. Can anyone recommend me a kit please.

All you need is a paper clip you will be please to hear

What do I do with the paper clip?

With the ignition off, flip the cover open on the diagnostic port. Use the paperclip or a piece of wire to bridge terminals e1 and te1. Then turn the ignition on two clicks, and watch the engine management light on the clocks.

If it flashes continuously there are no codes stored, if there are any faults, the flashes will dictate a fault number

5 flashes, pause, 2 flashes, would indicate code 52 - knock sensor. As an example.

Do the test, and post up your findings, although instructions and a list of codes can be found on here or Google

So I went out to do the hair clip trick, when I turn the key no engine light or oil light come on. An they usually come on till you turn the key. But this morning there's nothing :/

Have you disarmed your immobiliser bud?

It dosnt have one... Yet

Now I'm not getting any lights from that side of the dash at all when I turn the key :/

This. Dry solder joints are a common problem.

Ok so it give me the code 42

Checking the chart, but would any of the problems in the list cause a poor idle? Was almost like she wanted to stall. Sometimes she vibrates rough when I'm at the lights

42 is speed sensor circuit I think. I wouldn't have thought that would cause a rough idle.

Checked for dampness in the plug wells, and ignitor/coil area?

What is your idle speed when warm?

To be honest she runs fine at first then she just gets worse through the day. I'll the them a check an let you know how I get on
