Removing Engine - Gearbox

Quick question, an obvious one to most, but looking at most peoples threads when removing their engine, they seem to take out the gearbox with it? Is it possible to just undo the bolts on the bell housing, leave the gearbox in place and lift just the engine out? mines an N/A, need to drill and tap the oil return line for NA-T.

Any particular reason for lifting the whole thing out together?

Anybody got an engine crane? :D

Thanks

Because it's easier than disconnecting / reconnecting the transmission. With just an engine crane it's also easier to get the engine and box out together if you put the rear wheels on ramps, it makes the assembly just slot in and out.

If all you want to do is get the sump off you can also do it by lowering the subframe instead of removing the engine.
