Brake info

Hi guys

 

I currently have the below brake setup(see pic) and moving to UK discs, callipers and pads.

 

Just wondering what else I would need for the change and what is that blue thing in the middle?

I've been quoted £150 by a local garage to do the swap does that sound reasonable?

 

My wheel size is 245-40-18.

They are aftermarket discs and the blue bit is a brake bell that the discs bolt too

 

Similar to this AP set up

 

Stock or OE discs are 1 piece on both front and rear, they are vented and

don't have grooves or holes drilled in them on the braking area

 

Fitting braided lines would be a good idea along with doing a fluid change.

 

If you have the j spec set up i think you need to cut or remove the back

plates to be able to fit the UK set up

It's more the caliper size you need to think about...the discs will fit under 18's easily but depending on the offset of your wheels, they might not clear the caliper

As said already it looks like the calipers in the photo are UK but using an aftermarket disc & bell set up

 

The UK brakes fit with 17" diameter wheels as stock so the diameter should be fine, it's the clearance

from the inside face of the wheel that might be an issue.

 

Basically the clearance between the wheel spokes and the face of the caliper as i've arrowed

here on my car with UK calipers with 19" wheels, yellow arrow :)

Yh I've got UK discs calipers and pads just ordered some braided lines.

although the current set up looks cool the stopping power sucks.

 

One of the most impressive things i loved about my car was how well it stopped using

OE discs and pads.

 

If you are replacing the aftermarket bell & disc set up for OE discs then you

shouldn't have any issues with the wheel hitting the calipers. In theory !!

You already have UK calipers........... ?

 

So the only part you (or the garage) are swapping are the discs, is that correct? Swapping discs is an easy, non-messy job, but I don't know if removing the aftermarket bell complicates the job much. Probably not I'd guess. This means it's either the aftermarket disc that's causing the poor braking, or something else.

 

When's the last time the brake fluid was changed?

Same as changing OE discs, remove the bell & disc as one

You have good brake setup bro, the disks seem good brand I have the DBA discs expensive and similar, I would personally do a fluid change and change the brake lines and check the brake pistons are functioning normal, try also changing the discs to see if that solves the problem. I would order a set of chris Wilson pads maybe it could be the pads?
