Are these as good as people make out? I'm coming to the end of my single build and will be running around 600/650 hp. With decent pads and discs will uk brakes be good enough? I have this set up on my car but they are completely worn out and don't want to go through the expense of buying new discs and pads if I end up upgrading anyway.

Brake "endurance" is a function of the weight of the vehicle, tyre adhesion and how many times in a given period you expect it to stop hard from X MPH. It has little to do with engine BHP. For even enthusiastic legal road usage the UK calipers and discs are easily up to the task with suitable pads and fluid. For serious race track usage they may not be without specialist pads and fluid. Even then they should would not be considered at all optimal, but could be made to survive with high wear rates.

I was just worried about brake fade when braking from high speeds but if they're up to the job ill refurbish the ones I have. Can you recommended pads /discs or should I get genuine toyota?

I would (of course.... :)) recommend my own fast road pads, on special offer at £140 plus VAT for a full car set, with free insured P&P to a UK post code. As for discs I have found nothing better than stock Toyota UK discs. the usually taiwanese / Chinese sourced |Ebay stuff, with holes drilled in them, or uneccessary grooves milled in them, are seemingly made from recycled bicycle frames and can warp, or wear alarmingly. OE discs are usually excellent quality. I say usually as I have a retirement home for genuine Porsche discs here, often Boxster ones, which seem to be worse than even the cheapest Ebay offerings :) My fast road pads are quiet, relatively dust free, and do not cause excessive disc wear. They work from stone cold and have more bite and fade resistance than stock pads. I also do them for a huge range of other cars including the current Nissan GTR. The GTR ones are remarkably good value ;)

I have a set of Mr Wilson's fast road pads waiting to go on. I'll report back as to how they are. Some 5.1 fluid to go with them too.

CW fast road pads, OEM discs, Goodrich stainless lines, Motul RBF600.

Seems to work well for me.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Goodridge lines, (*GOODRIDGE* not Goodrich, in case someone wants to search), or see:

are a great fit with proper fitting thread engagement length and the correct pipe support clips.

Many DOT3 or DOT4 fluids are often higher performance, dry boiling point wise, than many DOT5.1 fluids.

DOT5 is silicone based fluid and must NOT be used. The DOT naming convention is dreadful and should have been changed to something far more obviously different for silicone based fluids.
